Nuka City

For hundreds of years this spot was just another unremarkable hill on a rolling sea of shifting dunes. As the storm changed course so did the topography in the region, with ruins beginning to poke their heads up from the desert for the first time in centuries. Scavengers quickly moved into the area, but could not fathom their initial discoveries when excavating an intact train station.

A perfect row of vending machines sat humming in the darkness, fully stocked with what appeared to be fresh snacks and ice cold Nuka Cola. After some experimentation, it was discovered they would actually dispense these treats for pre-war money. As they gathered more coins and bills from the area to clean them out, they noticed noises underfoot. To their further amazement each machine had replaced the products just purchased moments earlier.

In a region where food is so scarce the major staple in most peoples’ diets is insect larvae or fungi, this was on par with discovering a literal oasis. Outsiders are welcome during the day to trade but are kicked out after sundown so that the inhabitants can keep a layer of mystery on the origins of their products. Those that do poke their noses where they aren’t wanted get to find out one secret at least, why the glowing blue bottles are never for sale, and what can be made out of them..

Main Sources of Sustenance

Fancy Lady Snack Cakes, Cheezy Poofs, Sweetrolls, and other assorted junk food: Gathered in abundance from the secret vending machines, these foods have become a staple in the diet of the inhabitants. They are often traded for anything else they wish to supplement their diets with, top cuts of meat or fresh fruits and vegetables are freely offered for the coveted pre-war snacks.

Nuka Cola: It should go without saying that the drink the settlement is named after is a main source for hydration. As with the junk food, this sugary carbonated beverage is a high end commodity in the Great Dust Bowl. Denizens of the trader village have no trouble sourcing purified water in exchange for a few ice cold soft drinks.

Religion

Although travelers and those actually allowed to live inside the compound are not required to observe any specific religion, Unity seems to have special ties with the founders. They are allowed one of the surviving concrete complexes by the eastern gate in which to practice their faith and recruit others. Beyond the coveted real estate, members are also allowed to stay overnight inside Nuka City so long as they observe a strict curfew. This draws many new disciples to their cause as the alternative is camping in nearby ruins that are notorious for falling victim to raiders and mutant attacks.

The Founders

Led by Liam West, the core members of the original excavation team were Aasir Ba, Brian Foster, Ellia Fairfax, and the man known only as Murdoc. Forgoing their fees for shares of the promised treasure, they all now form a sort of monarchal council that dictates laws and sets expectations for those that have sworn their fealty as citizens. Each member has their own role in the community, and crossing any of the four is a sure-fire way to earn a permanent ban from this oasis of supplies in one of the most hostile areas of the Great Dust Bowl.
