The First Remin-Simi War

Military action

1761AF
1765AF

The first war between the Great Realm and the Simian Empire. Led by High King Martin III, the animals managed to push back a truly massive invasion of their land against desperate odds. The victory required a show of unity and determination that had not been seen since the days of the First King.

The first account of an attack by the Simi Empire, a large and powerful state from across the sea. They marched into Akanowa and conquered the entire region. The Shogun fled and the High King rallied the realms to total war. This was the event which solidified the realms as one, and thereafter began to adopt similar customs. The idea of integration became less taboo.   The High King was Martin III – he had only recently come to the throne, as the child of the famous bastard king Leondric VI and he was untested. He had spent the majority of his life not expecting to be king and there were those who doubted his ability to succeed. He proved them wrong, and marshalled a stunning defence against vastly superior forces.   There battles stand out. The Sack of Akanowa, in which the Simian Emperor, Gono XI utterly smashed through Remin defences and totally subdued the land. The Battle of High Throat, in which Martin III held the unwilling and disparate forces of his “subjects” together to form an immense shield wall across the length of a rocky pass near the border of Forte and Raman. This was unprecedented and involved each of the realms working together in true unison. Martin held them together for three straight nights of attacks, rotating the forces and different realms to ensure the line stayed strong. (During this time, the Archbishop of the time, Gregory, is said to have performed a miracle to literally restore broken shields). The Simian Emperor retreated on the fourth day, having lost a vast number of chimps.   The Great Chase, in which Martin III immediately marched his weary troops in pursuit. Fuelled by vengeance and the Shogun’s insistence that they liberate his land, the other Lords of the Realm united in common cause and successful coordinated to split their animals. They trapped the Simian troops and crushed them. The Emperor was killed and a part of his regalia was sent to each realm, as a reminder of the power of cooperation and joint purpose. (After this, the Laws of Migration were introduced, which allowed animals to roam the land with equal status to their native counterparts).
