The dragons had been a blight on the civilised world for untold generations. The greatest of the dragons, Haos, often worshipped as a god disappeared one day for reasons unknown. Popular myth considers Ram to have killed him and this inspired the Remins to rise up and hunt them down utterly in vast numbers. All kinds of heroic and less… savoury stories abound from this period.
The Other King invaded the Great Realm, for reasons unknown. Very little is known about his war, except that it marked the beginning of the “Unification” (ie, the treaties and wars which led to a High King). The First King rose from total obscurity, blessed with magical relics from the Gods themselves. Through diplomacy, he united the realms and led them to the defeat of the Other King. Thereafter, he founded his dynasty, the House of Leongling. They have ruled the Great Realm for 1,064 years.
The House of Leongling begins its rule.
The First King was invested as the first High King, simultaneously founding of the House of Leongling and creating an overlord of all the other great lords of the realm.
The First King's reign begins. Little is known about its details, save that it was successful and started the work of bringing the various tribes of the Great Realm together.
The war between the successors of Henric II to decide how would ascend to the throne. Eventually won by the youngest brother, Richard, who went on to become High King Richard I 'the Mighty'.
Martin Leongling, who would go onto become Martin the Unifier, is born.
The first war between the Great Realm and the Simian Empire. Led by High King Martin III, the animals managed to push back a truly massive invasion of their land against desperate odds. The victory required a show of unity and determination that had not been seen since the days of the First King.
Elizabeth I took the throne, succeeding her father Edward II. Her marriage to Duke Harry Brighting ushered in the Brighting Period of the House of Leongling.
A great warrior king, Leondric V led invasions into the eastern lands and it was his attack of the Foundling Kingdom which save the creation of the Free Market Cities. To aid him he formed the Order of the Martyr in 443 AF, a noble and prestigious band of knights who shared his bond of brotherhood in war. Leondric died after taking an arrow to the leg – the wound festered and he died in his tent. Despite having taken a great amount of land in the east, on his death it could not be kept together. It was this sudden vacuum of power which led to the Free Market Cities.
Leondric the Warrior's wars in the East required greater professionalism and dedication than could be expected from his levies. To this end he formed the Order of the Martyr in 443 AF, a noble and prestigious band of knights who shared his bond of brotherhood in war.
Forte was long associated with the institution of knighthood, but in an effort to build a common military bond between the nations it was agreed that knighthoods should be extended and offered to all worthy animals in the Great Realm. The samurai of Akanowa continued to be referred to as such, but they accepted the traditional prefix before their name.
After years of neglect, Raman, perhaps the second most powerful realm in the land, had grown frustrated with its position in the realm. The Raja at the time, Nicola Storjin, lobbied for Edward IV to hold a referendum of their membership of the Great Realm. Edward agreed but set it so that all the animals would take part, regardless of whether they lived in Raman. In this way, the vote was a landslide in favour of unity – 89% to 11%. Ironically, the animals of Raman voted 51% in favour of independence, but this was ignored.
Martin IV the Unworthy decides to invade the Great Swamp, a dangerous and uncharted area of useless land to the south of the realms. It ended in disaster and Martin lost the royal sword of his line, Rhioden, handed down since the days of the First King. Luckily, the other relics were recovered by one of King’s Shields, Dame Pa Han, though Martin was killed in the chaos.
Elizabeth II marries the Duke Armel, therefore ushering in a new period of the House of Leongling, one of great social change.
Elizabeth II ascended to the throne after the death of her brother Martin. The loss of Rhioden destabilised the House of Leongling and so she married Robert Armel, a powerful Duke of Forte of noble lineage, who ruled a northern island just off the coast of Forte called Callic. He was raised to princely status as the first Prince of Callic. The title passed to his son, who passed it to his son whilst he still lived, creating the tradition of the Prince of Callic for the heir to the throne.
Cipicies II's reign saw a marked rise in republican tendencies after a drought, food shortage and unpopular reform in short order. A charismatic badger named Jacob Cobbler managed to gain enough support to overthrow the king and introduce Convocation, a parliament of the people, which he presided over as President. Richard, the Prince of Callic and Cipicies' firstborn, managed to galvanise the nobility after the reforms began to bite into their rights and restore his father to the throne in 646 AF.
Leondric VIII 'the Knight' introduces the Statute of Knighthood which creates the “King’s Knights” - knights who can make other knights (previously a power reserved to the king alone). Before the time, and indeed it is still the case, the High King held a twice yearly Day of Reflection in which he would knight all those deemed worthy and who has passed the proper education.
The mighty knight, and future member of the King's Shields, was born this year. His deeds would go onto effect the realm for many years.
Lord Adermere Longtail, the Dread Bobcat, attacks High King Edward VII in retaliation for his pursuit of anti-corruption laws. The King is saved by a squire called Cearbhall, who is knighted as Sir Cearbhall Kingshield.
The second great invasion of realm by the Simian Empire. High King Edward VII was successful in repelling the attack at great cost. The legend of Sir Cearbhall was reinforced after his lengthy defence of Berwick, on the north coast of Akanowa.
