The Lament of Huron

As seen in

History

The Lament is a marble statue of the First Griffin to make it's nest on the shores of Ilori Sea. The Griffin it is debated named the region himself, or was named after the Griffin. A matter of speculation and debate amidst the failing city state. The sculpture was built in the Year 230, following a plauge that nearly erraditcate the local populations of the beasts. The Artist, to which the name is lost, wished to convey the misery of their proud race.
The Lammergeier is depicted as standing on it's hindleds, claws barred, great wings spread, its mouth agape in a soundless scream. The lament has become a much more significant source of pride to the deziens of Huron in the wake of the War with the Caliphate in the year 1209. The people of the City began to understand the statue and it's meaning in new light. The Griffins were nearly wiped out by a force they had no hope of combating.
They began to understand as they were losing ground in their own war with a far superior force. They had very little hope, until the turning point in the war Battle of Hurion. Since then the statue has become a great source of pride to the city, as a memorial and reminder that no matter the odds, they will endure.
