Anatomy

Fur. The sand deer's sand coloured fur gives them camouflage from predators.

Large Ears. Their large ears both give them better hearing, so that it is harder for predators to sneak up on them, and a larger surface are to help them to dissipate heat.

Hooves. Sand deer also have insulated hooves, so they can easily travel across the scorching sands.

Tough Mouths. Finally, sand deer have thick, leathery skin on their tongues and the insides of their mouths, so they can harmlessly bite through cactus to get food and drink.

Sand deer eat the cactus of the desert, and these also provide them with water. Sand deer will avoid finding an oasis if they can, as there are lots of predators in the desert, who are also likely to be looking for an oasis.
