Taskmaster: One Mankind's Trash...
When the Cicatrix Maledictum, or Great Rift, opened after the destruction of the reality-stabilizing Cadian Pylons, the resultant tear in spacetime could be seen in the skies of practically every planet in the galaxy. In the decades that followed, violent warp storms began to materialize and dematerialize unpredictably along its edges. Some of those warp storms swallowed entire systems, never to be seen again. Others belched for daemonic hosts from the fires of the Immaterium, drowning worlds in oceans of blood. Sometimes, a warp storm can spew something a bit stranger.
Over the millenia, countless ships, planets, asteroids, and moons have been lost inside the churning tides of the Sea of Souls. Objects trapped in the warp exist fully outside of the material laws of time and space, yet sometimes collide with one another, fusing into vast conglomerations of thousands of lost spacecraft and various debris. Space Hulks are mind-bendingly massive constructs, bathed in the energies of the warp after being vomited back into realspace. Often, these structures are teeming with vile Daemons or foul xenos creatures such as Genestealers, making the interior of a Space Hulk one of the deadliest places in the galaxy.
Despite the immense danger, Space Hulks have been known to hold untold treasure within their hive-like confines. Some hulks are tens of thousands of years old, and contain technological wonders from ages long past or artifacts containing the imbued essence of ancient star-gods. Only a madman would dare enter into one of these structures. Then again, fortune favors the bold.
