Taskmaster: Looking Back To Move Forward
Torgvald, a former feudal world, is nestled in the Occlusius System, which was recently rediscovered by the Imperium after contact was lost millenia ago. While the feudal and barbaric society is slowly shifting into Imperial compliance, vast swathes of the planet remain uncharted and unexplored. A particular interest to the Cult Mechanicus, as is the case with many rediscovered human worlds, Torgvald may yet hold technological fragments of a humanity long past-- artifacts from the Dark Age of Technology.
The race is on to explore the darkest reaches of the planet, from the Chaos-corrupted Northern Wastes, to the lush equatorial kingdoms, to the wilderness to the South; and to recover any and all evidence of Mankind's distant past. What exactly the artifacts will be used for is highly dependent on which faction finds them first...

Exposition
Even before Imperial contact was reestablished at the onset of the Infernal Wars, the people of Torgvald were a deeply superstitious populace. Millenia ago, the planet was colonized by a younger, more optimistic Humanity during the Dark Age of Technology. At some point in the distant past, the planet regressed technologically and socially to a pre-industrial, feudal state. Scholars are unsure what exactly caused this regression, but popular theories suggest a worldwide abhorrance of technology following the Cybernetic Revolts of the 23rd Millenium or Warp-corruption throughout the Age of Strife.
Conflict
Torgvald is home to various nations, realms, and peoples with varying degrees of loyalty to the Imperium. Winning influence is one province can lead to a hero's welcome in another-- or, just as likely, winding up branded as an enemy of the state. Some peoples are fiercely protective of their terrtories and historical artifacts, while others are cooperative with relic retrieval operations so long as they are lucrative. Any group operating on Torgvald must constantly ensure the proper palms are greased and would do well to avoid divulging more information than necessary. While the realms of the planet are regarded as culturally backwards and primitive, their ways of war are sufficiently modern to pose a threat to all but the most powerful retinues.
