The Vestigrad Cathedral

The Vestigrad Cathedral is home to the Imperial Graveyard that contains the remains of Saint Jenkyns and his Space Marine retinue. Built atop of the mass graves of the first casualties of the Infernal Crusade, the cathedral and surrounding area is considered among the holiest ground on Torgvald. As such, the Vestigrad Cathedral serves as both a place of worship and center of operations for the local Ecclesiarchy, including a small Inquisitorial garrison of Adepta Sororitas and Grey Knight detachment.

Purpose / Function

The cathedral serves as a fortress-monastery of a variety of local Inquisitorial forces, as well as a center for worship and pilgrimmage of the Imperial Cult.

Architecture

Large gothic spires, heavily fortified walls peppered with searchlights, guard towers, and gun emplacements. Adjacent to a massive graveyard adorned with various Imperial decorations and heraldry.

History

Built roughly ten years after the initial battle of the Infernal Crusade, the Cathedral of Vestigrad was built on land secured by Imperial forces, and earmarked for consecration by the Ecclesiarchy. Once finished in 009.M42, the main body cathedral was opened to the public, while the subterranean catacombs beneath the structure remained a secret, inhabited by the Inquisitorial garrison.

Tourism

Millions of people travel from the far reaches of Torgvald each year to pay respects to the "angels that fell from the sky" to defend the planet from a daemonic incursion by the Forces of Chaos. The main body of the cathedral is open to visitors (after a thorough psychic vetting) and houses the annual masses associated with the festival of Saint Jenkyns.
