Eubedons
Originally from the Thessalis Anvil and parts of the Boviton Stables, the Eubedons are a race of humanoid deer/antlered fauna once the pride of Artemis herself until the Invasion of the Progenitors.
Avenging their mistress' death, progenitor Eubedo (with his sons Eretrionus and Chakliko) fought the traitorous Bovitons and lost. As a result, they were driven from their grazing lands.
Following the Helio-Apollan Binary Supernovae and the subsequent flood, most of the species was either swept into space or scattered across the sector.
Driven out of every grazing area in the sector, nearly everyone hunted these majestic creatures.
Predators wanted their meat while Hellecians wanted their hides, bronze hooves, antlers and what little Ichor they could drain from them.
This continued until the Delot researchers at the Office of Genetic Integrity ran some experiments on these creatures and what they found drove them to give the Eubedon the following:
- Their own cluster of planets set up like a nature preserve
- Membership as Mixloastian Sub-Species
- Limited self-governance
- Eternal ban on hunting their species
- Protection from the Delothian Collective
All this in exchange for some genetic experiments. Given their bargaining position, the two sons agreed.
Calling for all Eubedons across the sector, the Delots ran experiments on them and turned them into walking cosmic satellite dishes.
Given their connection to the Cosmic Aurora and the only living species directly created by the Pantheon themselves, the Delot reconfigured their DNA and Ichor to grow metallic antlers and changed their hooves into rudimentary bronze fingers and hands.
The Eubedons now reside in the heavily-protected Eubedon Bridge, migrating from planet-to-planet acting as living satellite dishes with their antlers used to service the Collective's satellite array to maintain the DST Accelerator Lanes going in and out of their colony worlds between the Bridge and the Pontic Thumb.
Many take up jobs as communication officers in colonial installations and military Star-Decks as their antlers allow them to make out energy readings and transmissions on wavelengths no other species can pick up.
However, the stipulation to this agreement was their lack of agency to gain employment with anyone outside the Collective until they've worked off their pre-birth debt.
For most Eubedons, the value of their debt was so high they'd never be able to work it off. As a result, almost all Eubedons never leave The Bridge. And the ones that do are runaway who're eventually caught by The Collective and sidled with more debt or killed by predators of all kind.
When the Nemacots kick their rivals the Bovitons out of Thelbico, their buffer was gone and the lions made several raids into The Bridge and started making off with their families.
To stem the slaughter, the Collective came up with the horrific Euillion Compromise where a number of Eubedons (criminal or law abiding) would be sent into The Stables to be hunted by their new hegemons in exchange for preventing/prosecuting all unsanctioned murdering and pillaging in The Bridge.
The Psygonauts would show up before and after the Compromise. They would eventually lay the groundwork for the Eubedons' independence movement away from the Collective.
Their independence would be a crippling blow to the Delots during the Taygestronesian Civil War.
