Thanoi

The Thanoi of Fostian are a hardy and bitter folk. Their elders are easily recognisable by their long tusks, whiskers, and blubber - the longer a thanoi's tusks and whiskers the more venerable and respected a member of their clan they are.

Thanoi

The thanoi form tight-knit circles within their clans, and tend to be wary of others - particularly the dragonborn from the south of their homeland.

race features:
Powerful Build
You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.   Blubber
You have resistance to cold damage. You're also acclimated to cold climates as described in chapter 5 of the Dungeon Master's Guide. You are uncomfortable in warmer climates. In hot climates, you have disadvantage on saving throws against exhaustion.   Struggle Through
When you fail a strength check you can choose to add your constitution modifier to the roll, potentially changing the result. You can do this a number of times per day equal to your constitution modifier.   Walrusfolk
Depending on your age, you manifest one of the following attributes. Choose between one of the following options:
  • If you are a young Thanoi, you are fit enough to trudge through the heavy snow and similar situations for hours on end. You have advantage on your first saving throw against exhaustion each day.
  • If your are middle-aged or older, your long tusks are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
  Spear-fisher
You are proficient with spears and nets.
The Thanoi, also known as 'Walrusfolk', are short, stocky and strong. Whilst the elders are decidedly walrus-like in appearance - not least due to the large tusks and whiskers - the youngsters are not dissimilar from young dwarves. Thanoi lack flippers or any real grace in the water and are much better suited to trudging through the deep snowdrifts of their homeland.
