A formerly independent port on the Eastern shores of Alven that was annexed by Thane Stormbow.
From the Hermit article:
He was particularly adept at divination and became a chosen one to drink from the Cup. In his young years, he prophesied to the Thane himself. He is notorious for the 'Thou shall not spill the blood of children' prophecy he gave to the Thane in the year 1523 after 4 days of trance-like visions from the Otherworld.
These very words echoed darkly in the years to come as
Thane Stormbow started a five-year war to subjugate the merchant city of
Mersow , a prosperous and independent port on the eastern coast across the boder from Alven.
After a five-year siege and blockade, the city capitulated and the town was sacked by the Thane's army. Much blood was spilled, including children's. Right after the battle, the soldiers of the Thane's armies became mysteriously ill and died in great numbers. Instead of observing a quarantine, the clansmen took fright and returned to the capital or their family lands, and brought back the plague of Mersow with them. Within a year, a great number of clansmen were accompanying their own children to the grave.
The Thane himself contracted the plague and died within three months of coming back from the east coast with his army. What followed was a bitter war of succession between Clan Lys and Clan Bearsden for the Thane's Chair. Clan Lys with the support of the southern and eastern clans won the fight and Thane Snowpyk sat on the Chair by Beltaine on that same year.
