Mistayn and Coral
The story will hear right now is a tale from a long-gone age when clansmen fought clansmen for lands, food, and livestock. Clans were set against each other, and much killing was done by all.
Two clans in the north of what is now Alven had been battling each other for many centuries. These two clans are now extinct and nothing remains from their earthly endeavors. Their names are only remembered in the fateful tale of Mistayn and Coral.
Mistayn was the youngest son of Grindwar Foxbane, chieftain of Clan Wolfson, and had grown to become a valued warrior of the clan. He worshipped the goddess Morgan and hoped one day to become one of her warriors through his valor and mighty deeds and be admitted to her realm underground.
Coral was a maiden of Clan Falldeer and the youngest daughter of Jagden Fishok, the clan chieftain. She was also a fierce warrior of the clan and a devoted shieldmaiden of Morgan. It was Fogamm. Clan Falldeer decided to attack the lands and keep of their Wolfson neighbours to replenish their dwindling stocks for the Dark Months of the Year to come.
During the raid, Milstayn was injured and carried back to the Falldeer keep to work as a slave on the clanlands. When Coral saw Milstayn, she fell in love with him and personally tended to his wounds. Taking pity on the plight of the proud young man, one night, she secretly cut his bonds and let him loose so he could rejoin his clan.
Milstayn asked Coral to run away with him back to the Wolfson keep and become his betrothed. Coral would not betray her father and her clansmen, and heartbroken stayed behind.
When the Light Months came round again, and the warmth of the sun could be felt by men and beasts, Malden was out for revenge on the clan that had attacked the clan keep and stolen its much-missed winter resources. He led his best warriors, including his now recovered son Milstayn, into the Falldeer lands.
The two clans clashed again and this time it was Grindwar and his warriors who lost the battle. When the battle was finished, many warriors lay dead on the battlefield. Milstayn saw his father and his siblings among them. Milstayn also saw Coral grievously injured resting by a nearby oak. He crouched beside her and collected her last words: 'Promise me, she said, that no one I love will be ever be killed in battle again', and she breathed her last gasp in his arms.
Milstayn was devastated, and with Coral's words in his heart, he convinced the two clans to make peace and become one, and thus, Clan Wylfedd came to be. Milstayn kept Coral's last dying wish: no one she ever loved died in a battle again.
