The Gnomish Tourism and Commerce Bureau’s Guide to Miercna
Miercna is one of the jewels of the civilised world! While nowhere near as advanced as Gnomish society, many Gnomes visit the Imperial Capital each year to see the sights, smell the smells, and carefully avoid the local cuisine!
The city is quaint and the locals are charming, and there's always an energetic vibrancy to their markets and theaters!
Here's a List of the Gnomehome Tourism Corp's Top Five Things to See and Do in Miercna!
- Visit the Market place. - Although the local markets sell nothing as technologically sound as we have here, you can pick up cute handmade souvenirs from the Clay Dwarves who ply their trade in the markets of Miercna, or try some freshly grown fruits and vegetables! They're so much smaller than we grow in our hydroponic farms, but they're charmingly organic!
- See a play at one of the local theaters - Enjoy some of the Imperial culture by watching a classic play from one of the original writers of the Empire. Catch a classic by Snertspeare the Bard, a comedy by Marlock, a surrealist vision of the world by Samael Buckett, or even a tragedy by Hendrick Idsen. FUN FACT: Did you know that all plays were banned in 642 by The Emperor, citing 'times of humiliation' and claiming that 'stage plays are representative of lascivious mirth and levity'? They were restored in 660, but copies of the play that drove him to banning them, The Goddess and the Prince, are still impossible to find!
- Admire the Imperial Palace - Unfortunately the Imperial Palace is only open to citizens of the Empire for 10 weeks during the summer, but you can watch the changing of the Imperial Guard every 11am throughout the year. Remember to stay back, they will knock you over if you're in their way as they march into position, and it will be funny!
- View the Imperial Cathedral - The Imperial Cathedral is reportedly built on the ground where the Emperor was born, and contains reliquaries and fereters that hold the bones of important imperial figures. We would recommend staying away from the reliquaries themselves (there are far too many recorded instances of clerics who have looked after the reliquary in the Imperial Palace that supposedly contains the Goddess's few earthly remains growing very sick and dying!) but feel free to ask for a tour or head down to watch a church service.
- Go on a Pub Crawl! - The ale in The Haim is second to none, and often listed as one of the benefits of colonisation! Miercna is filled with little pubs and inns, all of them with their own take on the golden pale ale that the Haim is known for, and a few serving fine stouts imported from Ancreim! You can drink at an inn in every ward of the city and become a legend of the city's underground!
