Macha approaches Kerillian for assistance in finding a counter-curse for her sister. Tyrfing is sent, but Yirel opposes them and captures them. A mountain eel attacks, allowing the two to escape where they are rewarded by an ambassador.

Near the end of Tyrfing's training with Kerillian, a Half-Elven woman by the name of Macha came to ask Kerillian about the location of a rare flower that grew in the jungles of Sovyrian, needed in a ritual component to heal a rare curse placed on one of Macha's family. While she was not close with them, Macha was not about to let her family die for someone else's squabble.   While Macha and Tyrfing began their search, they were followed by Yirel, a mercenary who wanted to keep the location of the flowers a secret. He had discovered the flowers several years ago and protected them each year so he could sell them for a profit on the black market. While Tyrfing and Macha made their way through the jungle to the flowers, Yirel gathered a squad of local mercenaries and returned to the flowers just in time to see Macha sealing a container with his payday inside. Driven by rage, Yirel attacked her and Tyrfing's training snapped into action - Yirel lost his eye on the point of Tyrfing's sword. Elite as he was, the young Human couldn't stand up against a full squad of armed mercenaries - he was captured, and Yirel exacted his revenge by removing one of Tyrfing's eye, and one of Macha's for good measure.   Fortunately for the pair, they were able to escape later that evening when a Mountain Eel attacked the camp. The pair stole Yirel's transport and left him to the mercy of the eel.   Upon their return, they found Tyrfing's parents' diplomat waiting for them. He quickly hid them, sending his private healer to repair their wounds. He explained that Yirel had been a quiet problem of his for a long time - an Elf citizen sheltering within Sovyrian for his war crimes committed during the Silent War. He explained that he had been trying to trick Yirel to risk a move out of Sovyrian when he attacked the two - however if his involvement was detected the diplomat's neutrality would be questioned and the charges against Yirel pushed back into the endless legal cycles of the Castrovelian government. However, a much more pressing concern was arising: magical infection had set in during their return trip, and regrowth by magic was impossible. Macha had no choice but to take an eye transplant, but Tyrfing's infection was at a more advanced stage. His eye loss would be permanent. The diplomat suggested a consolation prize - an 'unknown benefactor' would generously donate the funds (and the services of his private healer) to acquire and install any cybernetic eye that Tyrfing could choose. Tyrfing accepted the offer.
