In the wake of the Gap, dragons are surprised to find their grasp on power slipping away. The metallic and chromatic dragons meet to discuss, and a year later split into two groups, one hoping to create new, more relevant types of dragons and the other to use genetic modification to forcibly evolve their species - resulting in the dragonborn.

In the wake of the Gap, dragons were confused about the many sudden changes, and discovered that they were on the path to becoming eclipsed by the power of starships, thermal weaponry and even technomancy.

Representatives of all metallic and all chromatic dragons travelled to a traditional meeting place to discuss how their race, as a whole, would progress. They debated for a full year, until both chromatics and metallics were divided into two sides: to use their power and magic to create newer types of dragons, or to turn to genetic modification and evolve into a smaller, more humanoid species better suited to the narrow corridors of starships. Although their combined power might have led to a far more impressive example of the new creation that now lives on Triaxus, the two sides parted ways.
