Quetzalcoatl, lord of wonder

In those first days of the children of earth and sky, whence they birthed their earliest children, they were all of them filled with a spirit. This spirit was one of deep fear and passion - a rage that fills those whom have set about their worlds for the first time. And each set themselves to explore the Isles, and to seek what strength and terror they might encounter. And it came to pass in those days that Leviathan and his attendants passed over the gardens and laboratories of the gnomes. And the spyglasses of Willayn observed the Drake-king in his flight, and the curious god was filled with wonder untold. And they devised a horn of purest wood and horn and gold, which would be blown forth to call the winged king. Willayn traveled to the highest and mightiest tree of the Rornian wood, and blew forth. And whence the drake had heard the call of the horn, they flew to the wood and bore witness to the gnome atop the trees. To the soil they each went, and they dismissed their attendants. And the king changed himself to the shape of a man, and the gnome was still yet made to ponder. In an instant, a trap was set for the king, and chains unbreakable that had been built by the gnomes had nipped his shape. And the Gnome-queen took the dragon as her prisoner, and held him as a study for 40 nights - hidden in the woods. And the spirit of the drake-king was both frightened and amazed by the humble gnome, who in their knowledge had chained his might. And it came to pass that the two fell into lust, and on the 40th night of his imprisonment, he was released into a night of love. And the two lay with one another, and from their passion was born 40 days later - Quetzalcoatl, serpent of many arts. The Wyrm-child was met by none but his mother, and a moment further fled to the woods, in a ravenous hunger for knowledge. And the serpent god left to the Isle of Twissil, and hid there in the stones of the eastern cliffs. He made a home for himself in a cave he named "Iyuvianan", which in Old Gnomish means "land of paints" - for there was much coloring roots there. And he washed himself in the colors, and reveled in his beauty. As was the nature of gnomes, he built tools from the stones, from the shells, the wind, the light, the air. And as was the nature of the drakes, he built wonders of glory for himself. He built a throne, and pipes, and brushes, and tools, and all other such curiosities. And in the millennia following, Man, and Elf, and Dwarf, and Angel, Celestial, Treebeast, Gnome and Drake alike came to the cave, and were given gifts for their secrets to be told. And such time many of such visitors stayed, and worshipped the god for his gifts. And the legends say still that if one sings in the cliffs of Iyuvianan, they will hear the call of the rainbow serpent.

"I have known my lord, the rainbow serpent, for passing 200 years now, and he is as beauteous and joyful as the day I met him first. I was wandering along the beaches of Iyuvianan, where it was rumored he resided. I was hunting for shells for a necklace I sought to make. It seems so odd now that such a simple thing pulled me towards a life so wondrous, but I began, as I often did still in those days, to sing. In the dim of the evening sun, I heard a deep, humming song come behind me to match my tune, and I was filled with a peace and a new sight for all I saw around me. The sky, the stones, the sand - it was so beautiful, as if it had been remade in my eyes. I turned around, and his coils enrobed me. I was filled with not an ounce of fear, not a single moment of terror. He was 25 tics long, covered in feathers that shifted shade in the sun. His face was serpent like, but ended in a beak, which curved away from his eyes. How filled with wonder was his eyes, as he stared into mine. He beseeched me "give me a secret", in a voice of naught but honest curiosity. And I told him one, the darkest secret I have ever revealed. He has kept it ever since, and ever will. And he gave me this cloak, dark and silken, which shall never burn yet holds the heat of a thousand flames to warm its wearer. I joined his circle of around a thousand students - we live now with him, in his care, within the caves. He bestows upon us gifts untold every day, and I have never wanted for anything under his watch. My days are spent now in wonder, in endless wonderful wonder at the Isles and their glories. I owe my all to him"   -- Weawol Ichinomin, Half-Gnome Human farmer who encountered the rainbow serpent whilst searching along the beaches in the south of Twissil. They lived to their demise in the care of the children of Quetzalcoatl.
