Hessen Hold

The Hessen Hold is the only landlocked hold within the Vastran Kingdom. Formerly a territory ruled by petty kings who would often pick fights with each other as well as foreign adversaries, it would take year before the area in this region was formed into the Hessen Hold and brought under control of the Vastran Kingdom. Large plains of grass make up the geography of this hold, which lead to dozens of villages and towns to grow over time until ti is now the most densely populated hold within all of the Vastran Kingdom.

Demographics

Being somewhat isolated from the more diverse regions of The Reach, Hessens are overwhelmingly human. For many not from this hold, they would assume that this means that there is a certain level of homogeneity here. That would be wrong, many of the cities in the Hessen Hold have rivalries that date back from before the forming of the Vastran Kingdom, and these disputes have not been put to bed. Though many humans here may seem similar, their diversity is more in heritage than anything else.

Government

The Warden of the Hessen Hold is selected out of the rulers of the noble houses who control the land. There are many noble houses in this hold that are in constant dispute over anything and everything they can causing there to be a lot of political turmoil in the hold. Many noble houses will often begin collecting taxes from whoever they please and start small wars with one another in order to secure their territory.

Industry & Trade

The Hessen Hold is full of open fields that are suitable for subsistence farming, but there is very little in the way of natural resources here. As other areas began to develop strong industries the Hessen Hold to this day revolve around raiding areas to take resources from them and then sell them to other areas that the hold borders with. As of late many lords have been raiding into the Gunnision Plains and trading what they raid further into the Vastran Kingdom.

History

The land in the Hessen Hold is made up of large flat plans of grass, making it ripe for settling by the people here. For the thousands of years before the formations of the Vastran Kingdom the people here bickered ad fought with one another, as well as anyone who dared be in their sight when they were in the mood to start a war. Much of the chaos and turmoil that prevented Wren from becoming developing and sebemlance of an intercontinental powerhouse such as the Grand Republic of Durham or the Anorian Empire can be attributed to the warring people of the Hessen Hold. As time went on small groups of rivals slowly begin forming together more and more, until for the last few hundred years prior to The Hessen Hold being annexed into the Vastran Kingdom, there were only a handful of noble houses that even to this day are locked in conflict with one another. 
These noble houses often come into conflict with one another, and the region here usually only knows peace when there is a strong king who will force them all into a peace. This constant infighting has subsided over the last three hundred, as the attention of the warriors of the Hessen Hold has been directed towards the people of the Vastran Kingdom. Now noble lords will lead their armies into the Gunnision Plains and sack and pillage small farming communities often using raiders as an excuse to attack any they see as coppiable in supporting the raiders from the plains.
