Marian Kingdom

The Marian Kingdom is the city state that is found in the city of Alti Mare and is ruled by a matriarchy of divinely anointed leaders. It is located at the bottom of the seafloor, in the narrow channel between Mako Island and the coast of Wren. The kingdom itself is run on a loose cast system that divides the population up into three distinct categories; Weavers, Maidens, and Matriarchs. It is on this system that they run their kingdom, and it has been successful for the majority of the second age.

Structure

The Marian Kingdom caste system is a loose system of regulations that obligate citizens to fulfill certain roles in society. People are often either born into these classes, or assigned to them upon their naturalization into the Marian Kingdom. Matriarchs are the leaders of the city, they are assigned to roles of power or leadership. Maidens are the guardians of the city, and occupy roles relating to it's safety and protection. Weavers are laborers of the city, and can occupy any sort of role that is not deemed for either Matriarchs of Maidens. These roles are not simply doled out at the discretion of current matriarchs, but instead there are ancient rituals associated with testing to determine which class an individual will be apart of.

Culture

There are few places more difficult for life to flourish than at the bottom of the ocean floor, and yet the Marian Kingdom has prospered. This can be attributed to the great bond that Marians feel for one another, being united against the threats that surround their home. Marians work together for the benefit of one another, because they believe that is the only way for their city to survive.

Mythology & Lore

Native Marians are extremely religious people, and although they worship all sorts of deities of the sea, Iphion is placed atop of the cities cosmological hierarchy. The Moon Maiden serves as the source for guidance and wisdom for the city, and even the caste system here is designed with her nature in mind. Weavers represent her peaceful spirit, Maidens represent her protective nature, and Matriarchs represent her guiding light.
