Industry & Trade

Lutédólin grew around fishing in the Davygómara Ocean. While the nearby city Nalanmar is focused on trade, the smaller town serves as one of its food suppliers.

History

The Town

Earliest mentions of this settlement date back to 323 NN. The original village was named Milundédón which translates as "fisher's beach". While the nearby port town grew into a major cultural hub, Milundédón remained rather small and quiet, attracting hardworking folks and people who sought to escape the hustle and bustle of Nalanmar. Nevertheless, it was grew into a town by the year 671 PN.   In 987 PN, it was renamed to Lutédólin following the Nimýric naming scheme. It was officially placed under the administration of Nalanmar in 1081 PN, which is reflected in the suffix "de Nalanmar".

The Demon

In my humble opinion, it should truly be called the "Demon of Lutédólin".

It is said that three fishermen spotted a hideous, unnatural beast during one night in early 1083 PN. As they approached it with a mix of alarm and curiosity, they realized that it was feeding light into a massive flood wave which was rushing towards the beach. Understanding the danger for their home town, they bravely attacked the demon and pinned it to the ground, stopping its evil manipulation of the ocean.   Legend has it that they brought the demon to the town's prison, and that a group of soldiers arrived soon afterwards to inspect it. Some accounts claim that it was then brought to the University of Nalanmar, but no records exist of such a creature being examined there. Others claim that the soldiers took it with them when they left, either to seal away that which could not be killed or to tame it and use it against the enemies of the Nimýric Empire. Yet other versions, especially those told to rebellious children, imply that it escaped and is still lurking somewhere in the town.   The scientific consensus outside Lutédólin is that the entire story was a hoax, implemented by people who were disgruntled about the town losing its independence two years before. Nevertheless, they succeeded in drawing a small amount of attention to Lutédólin de Nalanmar, and some locals still act as if the legend was real.
