My Default Layout (\maɪ dɪˈfɔːlt ˌleɪ.aʊt\)
A generic article to show off the layout for Summer Camp 2021.
History
Invention
Similar ideas have been floating around this world for a long time. The first known instance was the CSS Test Article which holds almost every element one could think of. However, this one is still private because it is a bit of a mess.Refinement
Alright, time to get some work done. Any ideas? No? ... Damn it...On Kolkanoma 20, 2021 NZR, a Rilanga artist named Go Enez was bored and decided to do some worldbuilding. However, being out of ideas, he ended up fiddling with the layout instead. The result was an exceptionally shiny placeholder article with a map, pictures and some info that was of the utmost importance.
Usage and Manufacturing
Utility
The generic layout serves as a guideline for setting up a shiny new article. Besides showcasing the CSS, it also demonstrates where the placeholders will go. Of note is the illustrative stuff in the sidebar, which serves to fill the empty space below the info panel. Putting the images and similar stuff there helps to keep the article neat and tidy.Manufacturing
A generic layout article is usually created by setting up headlines, writing lots of random nonsense below them and slapping some illustrative stuff onto the sidebar. While the latter is fairly easy, coming up with stuff to write can provide quite a challenge. It requires a sufficiently chaotic brain which comes up with odd and quirky ideas on the spot. Like the mental image of two fish plushies merrily playing volleyball in a dark alley. Contents above the info panel may include:- a character portrait for character articles
- an organization crest for organizations, including nations, companies or military units
- an image of a species, which will probably just be a placeholder during Summer Camp
- a map showing the location of a region, settlement or building
- a quote related to the character or organization in question
- a map showing the place of origin for a species or a material
- an illustration for a natural law or tradition
- a carousel showing the species found in a particular region
- a family tree for the character in question
Biology
Anatomy
These types of articles have a short summary on top, and at least two H1 headings. These sections are further structured by at least two H2 headings. To further increase the readability, longer paragraphs are often broken down by two or three H3 headings, for example when dealing with historical eras or specific aspects of a tradition. The length of the article and the sidebar rarely match, at least not in the first version. This may change as the article matures.Coloration and Markings
This particular subspecies is colored according to the Rilanga subtheme.Steel Elements
The background and panel borders are designed to resemble the faintly purplish steel that is a common sight in modern Rilsu architecture and technology. As of this writing, it is uncertain whether this aesthetic applies to the First Civilization as well. However, re-using the basic aesthetic of the Rilsu emphasizes the connection between them and their ancestors.Yellow Highlights
Yellow is the signature color of the Rilanga Union, as opposed to the green of the Ran-E-Zu Confederation. These colors are used to designate the respective superpowers' territories on maps, such as the one to the right. They can be seen on the "factions" layer as well as the markers.Custom Containers
Like most articles, there are few custom containers to be found. One notable exception is the multilingual quote on the sidebar, which is inserted as a variable so that it can be re-used without much hassle. Since the translation requires considerable effort, such quotes are more likely to appear when the article is revisited after Summer Camp.In destruction exists a lesson.
