Sintit Tanfimi
The "Threatening Craze" is an uncontrollable state of erratic, uninhibited behavior induced by the illegal drug known as Rosintit Lu Zangi, the "Dust of Craziness".
Causes
The symptoms start about 2-5 minutes after sniffing a certain minimum quantity of Rosintit Lu Zangi.
The drug increases the production of certain neurotransmitters and inhibits that of others, leading to a severe chemical imbalance in the nervous system.
Symptoms
Emotional reactions become intense and erratic, and the ability to concentrate is heavily impaired. The affected person first starts to lose track of social conventions and later begins to disregard the physical safety of themselves and others.
Drug users report feeling relaxed and detached from themselves, like watching a movie with childlike curiosity and an equally childlike lack of understanding.
People have been observed to collide with obstacles while running or dancing wildly, or to jump out of windows high above the ground in an attempt to fly. Piloting vehicles under the drug's influence is marked by reckless and often unpredictable maneuvers, and interpersonal interactions often escalate to violence.
Higher doses of the drug also increase the risk of organ failures, as the communication between the central nervous system and the vital organs becomes similarly erratic. For example, people may go into cardiac arrest, hyperventilate or suffer gastrointestinal disturbances.
Treatment
The first step to treating Sintit Tanfimi is to isolate and restrain the affected person so that they pose no threat to themselves or others.
To someone who consumed only a small dose, mild sedatives are commonly administered to help them sleep off the drug's effect. In more severe cases psychoactive medication is injected into the bloodstream in order to quickly re-balance the neurotransmitters in the nervous system.
Additional treatment is often necessary to repair the damage to affected organs, and to heal injuries that the person incurred while under the influence of the drug.
Prognosis
Most patients are likely to make a full recovery without lasting effects, as long as they are treated quickly. However, they may be involved in accidents with potentially deadly consequences before anyone can intervene.
Sequela
As the drug is highly addictive, users are prone to consume the substance frequently and in incresing amounts. Such frequent use, in turn, can unbalance the the neurochemistry permanently if it is not treated properly.
Cultural Reception
Since its adverse effects are common knowledge, sniffing Rosintit Lu Zangi is seen as highly irresponsible by the majority of the Rilsu. However, people may be regarded with more sympathy if they turn to the drug for its numbing, dissociating effect.
