Swing
The swing was a simple enough mechanism. A pendulum set in motion by angular momentum and accelerated by shifting the center of mass at the right moment.
Its motion followed an elegant rhythm, not unlike the oscillations of That Which Changes. The periodically recurrent conversion between kinetic and potential energy presented a poetic parallel to the energies that shaped the star system.
Keeping the pendulum in motion was relaxing to the mind and body, requiring little cognitive and physical effort, yet it kept both of them active enough to be entertaining. Furthermore it provided an energy-efficient way to experience a weightless floating state far above The Outer Planetoid's ground.
It was easy to see why the younger sapients delighted in its use. These swings truly made a fine addition to the stabilization areas.
