The Joining Agreement
Purpose
The Joining Agreement was drafted, discussed and signed at the Peace Conference which officially ended the Final War. It defines the dissolution of the Rilanga Union and the Ran-E-Zu Confederation in favor of the newly-created Rilsu World Republic.
Document Structure
Clauses
The document contains numerous sections dedicated to particular commitments. These include, among others:
- Government: the dissolution of the Rilanga and Ran-E-Zu governments, and both factions' equal participation in the Rilsu government
- Disarmament: the pledge to dismantle any remaining weapons of mass destruction, and to abolish the research and development of these technologies
- Repopulation: the plan for systematic interbreeding in order to assure a sufficiently diverse gene pool and a mixed heritage for future generations
Publication Status
Two identical copies of the contract were signed, one for either faction. One of those is now on display in the Denfa Sasmi Museum in Tundu-Iv while the other is stored in the Gremium Hall of Central Tundu-Iv.
The original paper documents have since been digitized and the digital copies are publicly available, free of charge.
Legal status
The Joining Agreement is the foundation of the Rilsu society and as such it is valid all over Ranul. Nevertheless, separatist factions such as the Reborn Ran-E-Zu and the Children of Rilanga refuse to acknowledge it. In contrast, they often go so far as to twist the meaning of its words to serve their own agenda.
Historical Details
History
The Rilsu society was established as an answer to the widespread destruction and near-extinction of life on Ranul. Both sides had come to the realization that the Rul species could not survive if the conflict were to continue. Furthermore, they wanted to prevent any war on that scale from happening again in the future.
To this day, they have been successful.
Public Reaction
Reactions from the public were mixed. Although most people were tired of the war and shell-shocked by the enormous damage that it had caused, it would still take a long time to get rid of the deep-seated hatred that had separated them for so many generations. Especially the interbreeding program was met with considerable resistance, as large portions of the survivors found it challenging enough to talk to their former enemies, let alone have children with them.
