Infernal Studies

Overturning the work of The Vanguard  in K'ul Goran is an endless process. One of the more insidious remnants of their influence was found in new light shed on an old law, which forbids the study of the Lower Planes.   It has been illegal for centuries to study any of the Lower Planes - the Hells, the Abyss, etc. This was hailed at the time as a great step towards preventing the practice of demonology or summoning fiends, a perfectly normal and reasonable thing to try and prevent. To this day only a handful of people in K’ul Goran even know any of the languages. Understanding now that the Vanguard wanted to ensure the K’ul Gorani people did not investigate their Infernal origins, this was a means of actually furthering the purposes of Hell, rather than thwarting it.   When this was highlighted by some scholars of history, and raised to the Senate, the law was debated - permitting such study is not something granted easily - but it was finally overturned with some restrictions. Now at least, the study of devils, fiends and demons is permitted, though heavily regulated to avoid as much of the inherent danger as possible. Tomes and scrolls dealing with evil matters are kept in the learning centers of Zot Goran, and not allowed to be removed from those halls. Those who agree to research this area are registered and have monthly meetings with a Priest of Melil to search for evil influences.   A team of scholars in Zot Goran are already mastering the Infernal and Abyssal languages to help in translation work and trying to understand both the origins of the country, and the designs of those in the Lower Planes upon the Material. K’ul Goran is determined not to be caught out like this again, and in this case - knowledge is very much power, power that had been stripped from them with their own permission in the name of safety.
