New Hillborrow

An idyllic farm village a short way off the road between Daring Heights and Port Ffirst. The village consists of a number of small houses, perfectly sized for the numerous Halfling and Gnomish residents that call it home. The notable exception being the Inn; The Hearth and Road, built to accommodate any visitors to the town. The owner, Pervinca, is almost an unofficial spokeswoman for the town as the first person most visitors meet on reaching the town.   The entrance to the village crosses a small bridge over a river that runs around the town, heading North where it loses it's way among the surrounding hills. To the North-East lies an expansive flower field managed by a new small business in town, leaving the surrounding areas used as farmland.   Recently, the town has begun expanding, seeing several new homes and a new small Inn crop up at the far end of town.   The village is often filled with a menagerie of small wild birds that are drawn to the area by a small cloister of Druids who live in the area. A somewhat reclusive group, they tend to the wildlife in the area and are not officially tied to the village, though they often visit and offer help where it is needed.

Industry & Trade

The predominant form of income for the inhabitants of New Hillborrow is farming, with the majority of its inhabitants working the fields, however, the village also has a small but successful Bakery close to the main entrance to the town. The Hearth & Road Inn is also a busy venue with the inhabitants and visitors to the village.   The flower field to the north is also the home of a budding flower business, co-owned by Ranulf, a resident of New Hillborrow, and a newcomer to the Dawnlands who moonlights as an adventurer.

Infrastructure

A Small bridge provides the main entrance to the village over a small River. The main road through the village, ' Bridge Road' is largest of the villages roads and is where visitors will find both 'The Hearth and Road Inn' and the Bakery in town.   Bridge Road leads into Stone's Way, a smaller path leading Southwest out of town, so named for the circle of ancient stones the path eventually leads to. Aside from some more newly built houses, Stone's Way is also the location of a new bar frequented by the younger folk in the village, now named "The Cat and Badger" after patrons were visited by a cat and a badger shortly after opening.   These two main roads are crossed by Field Lane, where the majority of the homes of New Hillborrow are located.

History

The initial founding of the village and early growth was a quiet and peaceful affair. Families relocating from Faerun moved into the area and began to build homes and convert the fields to farmland to become a self supporting community, establishing an ally in the peaceful Druids who lived in the area.   After the initial year of peacefulness, a few residents in the village began noticing some strange behaviour from their friends and families and, unable to solve the matter themselves, sought outside help in the form of adventurer's from the neighboring towns of Daring Heights and Port Ffirst who, until now, had been largely unaware of the village. Over the course of many months, through a series of unfortunate events and multiple excursions from the local adventuring community, the owner of the flower field, an elderly Gnome called Callen, was discovered to have struck a deal with a strange power from the Shadowfell who were interested in capturing the local circle of druids. They had been the driving force of the events afflicting New Hillborrow, including placing the entire village under the effects of a charm spell and the kidnapping of two of the Druids; Goose Hiss and Swan Song   The plot now assumed to be finally foiled, the town has begun to grow again, seeing an increase in visitors and families coming to live in the idyllic village surrounded by Hills.

Geography

A small river runs North east across the main entrance to the village, bridged by a small but sturdy bridge. This river slowly winds its way around a large Hill, past the flower fields at the edge of town before disappearing under ground amidst the rolling hills the surround most of the village on its East, South and South Western sides.   Some forested land lies to the south where the river can be picked up again before it tumbles into a valley on the far side of the Hills outside of the town.
