The K'ori
Walking through the capital city of K'ul Goran, visitors are always struck by several features of the city. First, they are struck by the wind, as all creatures are. The country is phenomenally windy, and if they travelled to the city by land, they may also be struck by how much less windy it is than outside the city walls. Second, they are struck by how hard it is to navigate the city - short streets twisting and turning almost never in a straight line for long. And finally they are always struck, and amazed, by the music. A low, choral song hums through the city at all hours of the day, constantly shifting in chord and volume as the day progresses, leading in a slow crescendo to shortly after midday, when the capitol buildings sing out in the national anthem of K'ul Goran.
All of these features are by design and all are a part of the construction of the K'orus, the standard unit of housing in the country. Though all are similar in core concepts, the design of each is often quite different to the ones either side of it, given the demands of space and the layout of the city streets. They even vary in size, from what other Medium humanoids would consider small to large and spacious buildings - a necessity in a city with such a a dominant Minotaur population. Entrances are generally made by having the entire section of wall slide along, a wooden solid affair on well maintained rails, and ceilings are always taller than one might expect coming from elsewhere, all a necessary concession to a town of horns. Furniture is thickly built, and while the buildings themselves tend to be taller than they are wide, inside the aesthetic leans towards horizontal more than vertical. Low tables are standard for dinner, with cushions for lying around them. Beds are typically wide and close to the floor.
With the wind being such a constant issue, cities are built with as few straight lines as possible, to prevent wind tunnels forming. Streets are short and twist into alleys often. The need for tall buildings for the residents also helps here, keeping everyone sheltered as much as possible. The tightly packed and complex street design of the K'ori also doubles as a security feature of the town, and any invading army would immediately get lost in the streets of any K'ul Goran city, while a population with so much Minotaur heritage can navigate the labyrinthine design with ease.
There aren't many houses which sing, certainly even fewer non-magical houses, but the K'orus does just that. With the constant wind of the city, a pair of young composers had the idea of using that as the breath to bring music to life. Years of work eventually led to the tone hoops - stone circles carefully carved and either attached to or built into the side or roof of almost every K'orus in the capital city. The wind is relatively predictable in its strength in different parts of the city over the course of the day, so it was possible to ensure that different sets of notes became dominant at different times - so a constant low set of chords progressed as the sun moved overhead, with the capitol buildings designed specifically to sing out the deep minotaur hum of the national anthem with the breathiness of the genasi overhead. It is one of the wonders of the world and is without question the greatest feat of musical engineering yet devised, and it is a part of every Goran household.
