Brokenbough
Archdruid Brokenbough
Born in 1398. Archdruid of the Red Sisters. Earned their place in ceremonial combat.
Wise, Wild, Eccentric. Brokenbough left their name behind when they ascended to the rank of Archdruid. A profoundly unsettling presence, Brokenbough keeps their public appearances to a minimum, sending emissaries to relay their wishes and rarely ever leaving the boundaries of the Barony of Trurall. They are the spiritual leader of the Cult of the Red Sisters, a diviner of clouds and entrails, and some say a sorcerer who treats with the darkest powers in the land. They thumb their noses at the decrees of the Church of the Six Saints, and will just as likely mock a priest of the Six as they will flog them within an inch of their lives should they stumble within sight of the Sacred Stones.
Their presence in Banteavan politics is something of an outlier; they did not inherit the Barony of Trurall, but seized it by de jure right as leader of the Druids. Taking advantage of age-old treaties signed to end the War of Antari Vengeance, Brokenbough's predecessors claimed the Barony of Trurall as a religious haven, exempt from taxation or interference by the King of Banteave. If the Banteavan's protested or sent troops to "correct" the owner, the Archdruid could easily call down the might of the Antari clans down on Banteave's head, as their southern neighbours would have broken the terms of the treaty. King Eadvard I begrudgingly accepted the demands of the druids, and the "barony" of Trurall was renegotiated, with the title passed down by the Archdruids when their service was at an end. This title has passed through many hands, some less stable than others... and now it falls to Brokenbough.
