The Tambarists

"What if I told you the house of God was empty?   What if I told you the crown was forged of tin and brass, that the tools you use to bring down trees and till the soil and reap the harvest are made of stronger stuff than the crowned vultures that feed on us year after year? How many of you have had your bones picked clean while you're still standing, still breathing?   The church and the crown, two filthy hands, each washing the other, spreading their filth while proclaiming their divine cleanliness for all to hear. But I'll tell you something... it's bullshit.   And I'll tell you something else, something secret: they're terrified of you. Each and every one of you.   And they should be.   Excerpted from a speech by a Tambar insurrectionist at a rally outside Risevar, 1439.
The Tambarists was an insurgency movement that spawned in the Heartlands of Banteave, calling for great reductions of church and noble authority over the commonfolk. Funded in secret by Ostamber, the rebels were unexpectedly well-equipped and trained, leading to a prolonged conflict as they sought to cripple the Church and the noble houses that held lands in the Heartlands. The epicenter of the revolt lay in the Barony of Risevar , where rebels seized entire quarters of Risevar Town during a bitter winter, holding off House Dillestone's forces with crudely-fashioned barricades and alleyways lined with brutal traps.    But in the end, the Tambarists struggle came to naught. The combined might of House Dillestone , House Oake and House Sandoreale descended upon them, killing the majority of the insurrectionists in battle and scattering the rest to the winds. A year later, the last surviving Tambarists exist in hiding, slowly being snuffed out as the remaining cells are found out and crushed by Dillestone's forces.

Structure

Loosely organized cells of agitators, insurrectionists, spies and saboteurs.

Culture

The Tambarists believe that the institutions of the Church and the aristocracy are inherently corrupt and should be cast down in favour of a new society.

Public Agenda

The Tambarists in Banteave sought to steal valuable tithes from the Church, and seized entire city districts of several major towns including Risevar Town .

Assets

Unbeknownst to many at the outset, the Tambar rebellion was quietly supported from across the Backbone of Banteave by the nation of Ostamber . Financial aid flowed through illicit channels to help the insurrection secure arms, supplies and mercenaries to train their peasant recruits in the ways of skirmish warfare and hit-and-run tactics.  Beyond support from afar, the Tambarists seized assets wherever they could to continue their desperate campaign. Farm tools were repurposed as weapons, city slums became fortresses, beggars became spies.

Disbandment

The Tambarists were crushed by the massed might of The Kingdom of Banteave , specifically the forces of House Dillestone , House Oake and House Sandoreale .
