Personal history
Early Years
Ali Ahmed was the son of a merchant. As they traveled the length of Upper Khemit, his father pointed out places of great battles and legends of pharaoh's tombs. When his brother Pip was born, his father continued telling those stories, though Ali thought they were getting exaggerated. When he questioned his father on the details, instead of getting angry, his father came up with the idea of getting the boys an education. then with that knowledge, Ali could find out for himself if the stories were true or not. For two years, Ali became a scribe for the Nomarch of Baqi, earning both an education as well as some money. He was a fast learner and took to reading about Khemit's history around Baqi. With a little bit of convincing, he was able to get a peek at some older documents and found a reference to the battle that his father was talking about. That summer, when they went back to trade work with their father, Ali told him the battle story, and watched how his father showed interest in the details. It was a proud moment. As they got close to the area, Ali asked his father if they could check out the area, now they know where it roughly took place. His father was reluctant, warning him of the dangers and of The Pharaoh's law of not looting treasures from tombs. Finally, he agreed and would meet up with them two days further down the trade route, as they would cut across the sands. It was a harsh ride to the small valley where the Hyborians battled a Khasti tribe, and as was written, the Hyborians found out that they were ill equipped for desert combat. When Pip and Ali got there, it was a typical looking desert valley with rocks, sand, and very little else. With a trough and hoe, Ali started scraping back the sands from a mound. It didn't take long to reveal scenes of battle. Under a foot of sand, there were spears, swords, and bits of armor. The small mounds around the west end of the valley appeared to be the final stand for the Hyborians. Human bones were scattered around, suggesting that the Khasti didn't bury their enemy and let the scavengers clean up. They also found a handful of copper and silver coins. His father said it's illegal to loot tombs, but as this isn't a tomb, it's more of a lost and found. Excited to show his father what they discovered; they started the journey back to meet up with the caravan. It was tough going with some heavy wind gusts. He was worried they would be late. When they arrived at the meeting place, Their father's caravan wasn't there. They waited hours before deciding to back track along the trade route. Back some five kilometers they see that his father's caravan never made it. The trail was blocked; buried by fallen rocks. anything that wasn't crushed by the avalanche was pushed into a ravine.
Later Years
Ali continued his pursuit of khemitian history. While still illegal under Pharaoh's law, he collected items of antiquities and made copies of any records he could get his hands on as he worked as a scribe. He managed to find a temple, reused as a warehouse by the fish market. Beneath the temple was a secret room, also reused in antiquities to hide religious artifacts from the Hyborians. He used the last of his savings to purchase the place for himself and Ali. This became their headquarters in exploring Khemit.Accomplishments & Achievements
Unfortunately most of his accomplishments would have him thrown in jail by the Pharaoh or just theoretical as he has been stuck in the temple. The one that he has shown to his friends and collegues is the map he's been working on. It's a 6 by 6 foot map that he's been hand drawing, through copying older maps or based on descriptions from documents like trade sales and construction reports. In theory he has noted the burial sites of a dozen pharaohs prior to the Hyborian invasion.
Failures & Embarrassments
As Ali went through the various items recovered from black-markets by his contacts. he found a peculiar scroll case made of ivory with a wax seal still intact. As he studied how to open the scroll case, a shaft of sunlight was melting the seal. before Ali realized it, the seal fell off and the case revealed the curse on whomever opens the case. It was a curse to never to leave the tomb alive.
Some Magic gets a little confused with age. clearly the victim was not in the tomb anymore, so the curse revised itself. Ali could never leave the temple again. any time he would go toward the door's threshold, his skin would dry up and wrinkle like he was suffering a thousand years of thirst.
Now Ali does his research confined to the temple, while his brother does the errands for him.
