Crookshank (Town)

Upon entering Crookshank, you see a market square with a stone church at one end. Surrounding the square are half timbered buildings with wrought iron and painted shop signs hanging over the doors. In the middle of the square is an old water fountain that no longer works.
Crookshank is a town in a southern region of the Märchen Forest known as Crookshank Bog.    The following establishments can be found in Crookshank:
  • The Grumpy Gator (Inn owned by Pauly)
  • The Pellar's (Herbalist and folk healer, Jonny Concheroo)
  • Tinker's (Junk shop owned by Perciville LeBlanc)
  • The Pink Orchid (Brothel owned by Madam Beaujolais)

Demographics

Like the Märchen Forest, Crookshank is a relatively diverse town that is home to humans, elves, gnomes, leprechauns, and other fey folk.

Government

The town of Crookshank is not run by any council, mayor, or other governmental agency; however, it is governed loosely by the old laws and traditions of the Crookshank Bog, which its inhabitants tend to adhere to.

History

The town of Crookshank was first established as a means to try and integrate the staunchly independent and scattered people of the Crookshank Bog into the Kingdom. Prior to this, Crookshank Bog, although part of the Märchen Forest, had not real contact with the Kingdom at large. Infrastructure, religion, and economic opportunity were invested into the new town. However, being proud, stubborn, and distrustful of outsiders, the people of Crookshank Bog quickly retaliated and the new town found itself at the hands of mysterious fires, disappearances, thefts, and tragedies. Eventually, the powers in Märchen decided that trying to integrate the Bog was more work than it was worth, and left with the agreement that would not bother the Bog if the Bog did not bother it.

Tourism

Each year, Crookshank brings in travellers from across the Märchen Forest and Known World for its week long festival of "debauchery" called Gris Gorsant.
