Märchen (City)

"Narrow streets and alleyways lined with tightly packed half-timbered houses stretch out from the southern gate. What appears to be a main thoroughfare leads out into the city moving forward from the gate towards a central square."
  Märchen is the capital city of the Märchen Forest and is located near the center of the Kingdom. It is the center trade and government for the realm. At the center of the city is The Baron's palace, which is in the style of a half-timbered chalet, several stories high and nearly 100 yards across. The outside of the palace is painted in gold leaf murals depicting grapevines stretch across the massive structure.   Notable Places:   The Gnarled Vine: Inn. Central Square. Owned and operated by Kellner.   Eisen's: Blacksmith. Central Square. Owned and operated by Eisen.   Lesen and Sons: Bookseller.Central Square. Owned by Lesen and his son Lesel.

Demographics

The largest demographic populations in the city are humans and elves. Smaller populations include dwarves, gnomes, halflings, and orcs.

Government

Märchen is under direct control of The Baron of Märchen (otherwise, simply known as The Baron) and the Warden of the Forest.

Industry & Trade

The city is known for being a hub for merchants and traders in the northern regions of the Known World. Because of this, Märchen is home to several prominent trade and banking institutions.

History

Märchen is one of the original settlements founded by the first humans and elves to arrive in the region. It eventually came to prominence after its leader was crowned the First King following the war with the Creatures of the Old Forest and became the capital of the new Kingdom.

Märchen is known for its many half-timbered buildings and chalet style cottages.
