Maerin

Maerin is a small town to the East of the Greying Heights. It consists of a large castle overlooking a town set in what at one time was woodland. Trees still litter the landscape, and the houses seem built around the trees rather than the opposite. To the south and east are mountain ranges with several small villages such as Vermillion and Penthill. To the north and west stretches miles of farmland than provides sustenance for the population. The river flows across the north of the town. Important locations include the castle, the barracks, the bathhouse, the market, the smith and the tavern. The ruling faction is the Cedarwood Bannermen, and their blue colours and crest decorate the buildings and streets.

Demographics

A half split between the native dwarves, migrated down from the hills and mountains, and humans. There are a few elves who live near the woodland but often they feel out of place. A small community of halflings float about the town.

Government

Ruled by a female dwarf named Gwenmura Fudohur who took the baron role over a hundred years ago. She is calm and measured but often overly cautious. She is hesitant to risk her limited supply of soldiers and guards, so the villages around Maerin often become isolated against danger.

Defences

Defended by a strong contingent of bannermen knights, with a guard force and scouts. The castle is well fortified but the perimeter is only a newly built wooden wall with lookout towers.

Industry & Trade

Historically an industrial centre, with the decline of the mines the town has become more varied in it's operations and economy

Guilds and Factions

The Bannermen run the town and maintain a large presence within the town but have little interest of the surrounding areas. The overlords run operations through the town looking to spy on the bannermen and scout records for developments. The hanging tree are invested in the surrounding area as more creatures and planar portals open due to the lack of interference and thus remain on the edge of the town if at all, but maintain hideouts across the countryside and mountainside. Some druidic faction members stroll through what remains of the woodland but feel little connection to it. The draconic faction have no interest in the town and sees it as something to be conquered later.

History

Born out of a confederation of minor dwarven tribes

Architecture

Most of the town is of the traditional imperial medieval build, but the old quarters shows some remains of the old dwarven style lost to the ages
