Captain Rill was a celebrated Fleet officer, well regarded and highly commended for exemplary service. She started her career as a short range pilot, and worked her way steadily and dutifully through the ranks until she was made captain of the Colibri; a light armored cruiser. It was rumoured in the fleet she would become an admiral one day.
Then the invasion came.
The Tomadores came without warning, sweeping in from the darkness that spirals between the arms of the galaxies. No one knows where they come from, and no one knows what they want. The systems they overtake never respond to communications. Those ships who try to challenge the Tomadores blockade are never heard from again.
Captain Rill was covering the evacuation of an Andromeda Station when the Tomadores attacked. To ensure everyone was evacuated, she stayed behind to initiate self-destruct on the station and ejected in an escape pod. The Tomadores retreated in one of the rare Fleet victories over the invaders; but Fleet wasn't willing to risk the chance that the Tomadores would return.
It took them eighteen months to recover Rill's pod. Drifting alone, the pod automatically went into a preservation state. Unfortunately, due to the shockwave from the self-destruction explosion, some of the life support systems malfunctioned. Because of the extended preservation on malfunctioning system, Timora Rill was left with damage to her brain that gave her persistent migraines, vision issues, and unmanageable epilepsy.
Unable to continue her Fleet career, Timora Rill was medically discharged with a full pension and honors, and received her veterans benefits. She was offered an administrative job at Fleet, but a few weeks behind a desk was enough for her. She had trained her whole career to Captain her own ship, and her truest action as a Captain had stripped her of her dream.
She quit her desk job, cashed out her pension and benefits, and went looking for a ship. If she couldn't be Captain on the Fleet's terms, she would be Captain on her own. She wanted a ship that was truly special, with a crew she could trust like family. She found both in the Comet.

Rill is generally in good physical health, though her epilepsy has excluded her from service in the Fleet.

Rill has a number of scars from both active duty and the surgeries attempted to bring her back to serviceable health.

Facial Features

Rill has a round, heart shaped face and wide, expressive eyes. Her mouth is full and generous, and usually captures some sort of sardonic smile. Her nose is round and slightly off center. She has a smattering of freckles across her cheekbones, which are broad and flat. Her eyebrows are a tawny brown, and scarred in several places.

Timora Rill is most often identified by her highly styled wigs, which she sculpts herself to suit her mood.

Rill favors soft, breathable materials that stretch. A lifetime in the fleet has left her with little fashion sense, so she wears whatever is most comfortable and functional for whatever she wants to do.

Personal history

Rill was born to two Fleet Officers that served on the same ship. She stayed with whomever had the most stable posting until she was eligible for Fleet Preparatory Academy and eventually the Fleet Military Academy, where she graduated with honors.
She's had an on again, off again relationship with Captain Sigurd Jensen, who she attended Fleet Academy with. Always more devoted to the Fleet than her personal relationships, Rill maintains pleasant relationships with her former shipmates and Fleet personnel - but that never extends to preferential treatment aboard the comment.
Her executive officer is an enigmatic shapeshifting alien known as Sleek. Very little is known about Sleek, including the specifics of their race, gender, and sexuality. But Sleek has Captain Rill's ultimate trust and confidence, and runs the majority of the Comet's operation without too much interference from the Captain.

Her experience in the pod has left her with a fear of abandonment and a desire to both be surrounded by life and apart from the group at all times. She has still not fully processed the trauma of losing her commission and being discharged from the Fleet.

Intellectual Characteristics

Rill loves art and music, and though she keeps herself apart from the residents of her ship, she is extremely proud of them and their efforts. She will often sit in on practice sessions as a means of 'checking up' on the talent. It is a known secret of the ship that Rill enjoys the pleasures of the ship more than she lets on, and everyone preserves the masquerade out of a genuine fondness for the Captain.

Morality & Philosophy

Rill still operates largely based off of a Fleet sense of morality, meritocracy, and hard work. But she is deeply embittered by the loss of her commission and feels that the Fleet failed her in not doing enough to help her. This manifests as a sense of deep rooted compassion and a desire to do the right thing at all costs, and an almost spiritual belief that the Comet will provide.

Rill's natural hair tone is a golden blonde and curly. However, the multiple cranial surgeries she's been through have left her with large patches of scarring on her head, and she wears a multitude of wigs as an expression of her mood.
