The Eternal Battle is a battle that began in the God War, and yet still took place in the astral sea millenia later. The conflict tore holes into the fabric of the Astral Plane, causing magic on the Material Plane to begin to go haywire in certain areas where the connection to the Weave wore thin.

The Conflict

Battlefield

The original battle took place on the Material Plane, when a group of Scions of both the gods and devils met and begin to fight. However, they were disrupted by an unnatural creature that began to attack both sides, eventually leading them into a strange ritual which transported them to the Astral Plane. There, they encountered a primordial leviathan, which would threaten to devour the universe.

Outcome

Though the Scions were able to subdue the leviathan and escape with their lives, they found themselves trapped in the astral sea. Though the group had worked together against a common enemy, they could not set aside their differences.

Aftermath

With no way back home, the two opposing sides continued to fight one another, unable to die due to the stasis that the plane kept them in. Their attacks kept getting stronger, though they would still shake off every blow. Eventually, they began to impact the plane around them, tearing holes and rifts around their fighting.

Historical Significance

Legacy

The rifts caused by this battle would continue to impact the Material Plane far after the conflict ended. Unlike other rifts, as these were actual tears in the Astral Plane itself, they could not be mended by simple magic. The areas around these rifts would cause any magic cast within them to become unstable and chaotic, ranging in intensity to changing the element of a spell to causing it to backfire to changing it to a different spell entirely.

Strength

There were three Celestial Scions: Rose, Scion of Ehrendil, Liziam, Scion of Aleyara, and Patroclus, Scion of Sirsu. Rose was a guardian of nature, transforming into beasts and creatures. Liziam was trained in sword and shield, attacking his enemies with ferocity and fearlessness. Patroclus used the souls of the dead to his advantage, and to the advantage of his side.
There were three Infernal Scions: Jason, Scion of Ssarahas, Rivela, Scion of Thudar, and Hadariel, Scion of Xiarae. Jason wielded holy flame and fire to burn his enemies to the ground. Rivela was strong and stalwart, an unstoppable force and immovable object in one. Hadariel attacked from afar, his arrows always striking true.

Imagine fighting for two millennia. Sounds exhausting. It's a shame that there are holes in the astral plane now.
