Varoona

Child of the Sea, Siren of Chaos

Although the captain saw the storm coming, he and his crew were completely unprepared for the surging waves, the brilliant flashes of lightning, and the ferocious downpour of rain. The mast of the ship groans and the wheel strains as the vessel vainly attempts to dodge the crashing wave. As the wave sends half his crew to the depths, the captain utters a hasty, desperate prayer to the Goddess of the Sea. When he wakes on the beach later, coughing up saltwater, he will wonder if his survival is a blessing or a curse from Siren. A young Acolyte floats atop the surface of a pool of water. She inhales slowly and deeply. Nearby, another acolyte channels a surge of chaos, the area around her suddenly consumed by fog. The floating Acolyte takes a breath. Primarily known as the goddess of the sea and of chaos, Varoona is – to the surprise of none – one of the most chaotic of the pantheon. Her own city has known both her protection... and has faced down her wrath and destruction by her own hand. She is most commonly depicted as a mermaid adorned with scales in varying shades of blue and teal, ladened with pearls and gems that glitter like the waves. Even when depicted as a land-walker, she retains many of these aquatic features as a respect to her domain. As a Spirit of the Sea and supporter of travel and trade, there are many pockets of her worship scattered across the continent, wherever water may be. It is considered insanely stupid to not offer a modest offering to the Siren before setting sail. The chaos of her favor alone is precarious; best not to tip the tides of chaos towards ill favor.

Is chaos not just the child that creates art upon their parents' walls? And is art not from the heart?   I am learning to paint with gentler strokes. We all – mortal and immortal – should seek to grow.

The Two Faces of Varoona

Despite being primarily associated with the Sea, Varoona oversees a portion of the land on Dremora as well. One might consider Varoona a two-faced goddess. One face she shows the world: the city of Varoona Proper. The streets here are ripe with chaos, wielded often to the detriment of others. It is a city that has seen destruction at the hands of their Goddess. Yet a chaotic force of destruction is not all Varoona is. If one cannot see that within Varoona Proper, then one must merely take a dive beneath the waves. Within the Sea, the people of Sotto Varoona honor the softer side of Varoona: the Child of the Sea. Here, Varoona's tenets of youth, growth, and freedom are emphasized.   Notable Chosen: Calypso ("Cali") Valdove, Thalassa Varoona, Ambarra (Slayer of Omen's Hydra)

Tenets of Faith

Principles of Chaos – Laws exist to be bent and to be broken. Mischief is to be tolerated – even allowed and encouraged – in the name of promoting chaos. For chaos brings the spark of something new and unexpected, which drives mortals to react, adapt, and grow.

Unified by Water – The Dremoran continent is connected and bounded by the sea; water is the gateway to every corner of the continent. Where there is water, Varoona is present as well. Water may further serve as a gateway to the self. In the pursuit of growth, self-reflection should be encouraged. The rhythm of the rolling waves should serve as a backdrop for a life of growth and improvement.
Pure Freedom – The sea is a vast, open expanse. Life should reflect that. The mortal condition is to seek and experience freedom. The freedom to travel and move as they desire. The freedom to make mistakes and learn from them. The freedom to worship as they please and invoke chaos as they desire. For the Child of the Sea despises walls and restraints, desiring to purge them all from existence.
