The Nairobi Star

A large-paged, single sheet daily newspaper. Has a reputation for an honest, if uninspired, reporting of events in Nairobi in particular and Kenya in general, run by its editor Natalie Smythe-Forbes.

The Carlyle Expedition

The newspaper reports from the time indicate that The Carlyle Expedition was mounting a trek to the Great Rift Valley to confirm data gathered in Egypt, concerning the followers of a religious leader who migrated southward into Kenya. While in Nairobi, the Carlyle principals stayed at Hampton house. The expedition also dealt with Dr Horace Starret and Mr Neville Jermyn.   A Photo taken on their departure from Nairobi on the trek shows Sir Aubrey Penhew looking younger than when he left New York. Hypatia Masters also looks different and Dr Geoffrey Davenport confirmed with his medical knowledge that she showed the signs of early pregnancy.   Smythe-Forbes, also recalled that the Carlyle expedition, spent a few days at Colonel Endicott's hunting lodge.

The investigation into the disappearance

The newspaper report gives credit to Lt. Mark Selkirk and a squad of men for finding the remains. A later report describes the capture of five Nandi, who were tried and found guilty for the murders; an accompanying photograph shows the grisly scene of the men swinging from five ropes.
