Aisel Naming Traditions
Example: Maescia Virwen Kalyso
First Names
Aisel first names are the same as any other first name. They are either given to an aisel at birth by their parents or chosen later on by the aisel themself.
Second Names
Second names are also given to an aisel at birth by their parents. It is less common for an aisel to choose their own second name, however, it is possible. Not all aisels have second names.
Last Names
Aisels with children are the only aisels to have last names, taken from their partner.
Family Names
Family names are more similar to a typical last name. Aisels often do not introduce themselves with this name attached, unless they wish to legally or formally introduce themselves. They are used more often in legal documents, such as wills, land ownership, etc.
Sometimes aisels that do not have a second name will choose to use their family name as such if they wish to strongly represent their family heritage, honor a family member passed on, or are the last living member of their family name.
These names can also be removed completely for a fresh start if the aisel wishes to detach themself from their family, or they have been cast out of their family. Their second name then becomes their new family name as well.
Descendant Names
Aisels that have children with another will often take on their partner’s family name as a typical last name or a new family name.
Example: Loradove Lei Kalyso, Farrow or Loradove Lei Farrow, Kalyso - A/N
If the parents choose to take on one family name, then the child takes on that same family name regardless of their parents' last names.
If the parents choose to take on different family names, then the child may choose which will be their family name and which will be their second.
It is common for aisel parents with different family names to leave their children without second names to allow them to choose their descendant names, as well as still have space open for a last name should they ever wish to use it.
