The Spider's Web

General Summary

We join our adventures underneath Tresendar Manor searching for Glasstaff AKA Larno Albrek. Looking into Glasstaff’s last known position in the North West the group funnelled into the mage’s bubbling alchemy room. Lo-Kag Kalathai barred the door with a nearby bookshelf, Keith McCraggins pretended to help. In the process, Lo-Kag Kalathai stumbled upon an ancient scroll in Dwarvish about a mace of Lathander called Lightbringer, which dates back to the time of the Phandelver Pact. While searching the room both Quinn Bloodscale and Alistair DütcHoven noticed an odd rat which appeared to be a mage familiar. Lo-Kag Kalathai scooped up the rat and took it with him to perhaps help track Larno Albrek down.   The group entered Larno Albrek's room which caused a siren to signal, alerting the nearby Redbrand Ruffians. Keith McCraggins hastily searched Larno Albrek’s table and found a couple of important notes. One of which was orders from the mysterious The Black Spider to capture or kill the 'Ardboys. The other note contained symbols mapping to some unknown puzzle. While sneaking out through a hidden door, the group ran into three large Bugbears. Quinn Bloodscale tricked the bugbears into going back to the guards and found another secret passage back to the entrance of the dungeon.   Larno Albrek had left and taken some things hidden in a go-bag in the pool at the entrance to the dungeon but appeared to have escaped. The Redbrand Ruffians were investigating so the ‘Ardboys prepared an ambush with Quinn Bloodscale burning them in a torrent of fire as they came through the secret passage. The Bugbears shrugged off the flames and bashed Quinn Bloodscale who then quickly escaped back into the room. Alistair DütcHoven copied Quinn Bloodscale’s approach and sent down another torrent of flame further damaging the creatures. The lead Bugbear Mosk, crushed a wounded member of the Redbrand Ruffians to move closer to the action while the front Bugbear also smashed Alistair DütcHoven. Alistair DütcHoven moved away while Lo-Kag Kalathai threw his axes into the tunnel managing to kill the Bugbear with a deft throw.   Quinn Bloodscale then managed to critically hit Mosk with a perfectly timed crossbow bolt as he rushed into the room after his fallen ally. The wounded Mosk failed to hit Lo-Kag Kalathai while Alistair DütcHoven prepared a mighty spell of guiding bolt. Mosk had just enough time to take his eye patch off and see the bolt hit him squarely in the face, evaporating him into thin air. After flailing on the mess of corpses and blood in the passage, Keith McCraggins finally finished off the remaining Bugbear with another critical strike.   The party then explored the rest of the cavern, finding a jovial goblin called Droop who fainted at the sight of the mighty warriors. After some quick fact-finding, it was clear Droop was sent from Cragmaw Castle by King Grol but posed no threat and may be helpful in finding a way there, so our heroes allowed him to follow along. The ‘Ardboys then freed the captive Qelline Alderleaf and her son and headed out. Exiting the Tresendar Manor, they found a burnt but alive Raster with some red fabric in his jaws, signifying a scuffle with Larno Albrek, but the mage was nowhere in sight.   On the way back to town, Qelline Alderleaf informed the group of a Druid in Thunder Tree (in the shadow of Mount Hotenow who knows all about Neverwinter Woods and may be able to help them locate Cragmaw Castle and provide insight on the rest of the strange occurrences in the area. The group then meet up with Sildar Hallwinter and went to the inn to discuss what they found in Tresendar Manor. Sildar Hallwinter was surprised to see the connection between Larno Albrek and The Black Spider however was nonchalant about the rest of revelations (which Keith McCraggins finds suspicious). Our adventurers agreed to settle in for the night and the bar wench Elsa Lovegood continued her courting of Alistair DütcHoven with an endearing, but horribly composed bard song and Alistair DütcHoven promised to tell her a detailed tale of a one-eyed Bugbear.   The ‘Ardboys vow to continue their quest to find Gundren Rockseeker by following the new druid.
