Minotaur
Minotaurs are a race of large bull-men monstrosities of legend. Most minotaurs of the Lost Lands are towering, chaotic evil worshippers of the demon lord Baphomet and are little more than brutish monsters. They were often used by dark forces as sentries or guards in mazes and would have no place amongst civilized society or adventuring parties. Some minotaurs have been altered by wizards performing strange experiments, warped by wild magic, or even blessed by a good deity, resulting in a less beastial and more intelligent minotaur. The following stat block respresents the medium sized and playable minotaur race.
Intelligent minotaurs are quite uncommon and even less likely to be accepted by civilized lands than other obscure races. Their appearance is of a monstrous creature of legend, and unfortunately many folk will not attempt to overcome their initial prejudice and fear, but certain metropolitan cities have more progressive attitudes about uncommon races in their mix and as long as the minotaur abided by their laws, they could find a home.
Minotaurs tend to exist on the extremes of the spectrum with few moderate ones in between. Most are violent, brutal fighters, bent on slaughtering their opponents to the last man. They view surrender as weakness, and unless they desire slaves or need prisoners for negotiating purposes, opponents who surrender are usually executed on the spot. In wild areas or in regions ruled by more feral races, these intelligent and enormous creatures find themselves either enslaved or in control of other races, such as orcs or goblinoids. They are fierce fighters and are feared across their domain.
Others exist on the opposite end of hte spectrum, kinda hearted and altruistic Minotaurs that only wish to be accepted by other folk. They often go out of their way to dispel the myth that they are blood-thirsty monsters, and over time can become heroes or pinnacles of their communities. Minotaurs that trend towards being good develop deep bonds and friendships, and will become a devout protector of what they view as their family.
Minotaurs vary widely in appearance, incorporating features from a range of horned beasts into a humanoid form. Bovine creatures are by far the most common, but hooves or feet, the number of fingers, and the presence of a muzzle all depend purely on the individual in question. One common factor is a minotaur's violent temperament. In addition to a strict adherence to honour, each minotaur develops ways to bleed off this aggression. Berserk performances, passionate festivals, and even simple pit fights. Others resort to hermitage and ritual, regarding bloodthirst as something to be ruled, not bled off.
