Human

Humans’ empires and nations are vast, sprawling things, and their citizens carve names for themselves with the strength of their sword arms and the power of their spells. Humanity is both diverse and tumultuous, running the gamut from cruel to kind, from sinister to saintlike. and while humans build large nation states and free cities alike, many of them venture forth to explore, leaving their homes to map uncharted realms, search for long-lost treasure, or lead mighty armies to conquer their neighbors for no better reason than because they can.   Human variety also manifests in their governments, attitudes, and social norms. Though the oldest of human cultures trace their histories thousands of years into the past, when compared to the societies of the elves or dwarves, human civilizations seem to be in a constant state of flux, as empires fragment and new kingdoms subsume the old.  

Anatomy

The physical characteristics of humans are as varied as the world’s beasts. From the dark-skinned tribesmen of the southern continents to the pale and barbaric raiders of the northern lands, humans possess a wide variety of skin colors, body types, and facial features. Generally speaking, humans’ skin color assumes a darker hue the closer to the equator they live. At the same time, bone structure, hair color and texture, eye color, and a host of facial and bodily phenotypic characteristics vary immensely from one locale to another. Cheekbones may be high or broad, noses aquiline or flat, and lips full or thin; eyes range wildly in hue, some deep set in their sockets, and others with full epicanthic folds. Appearance is hardly random, of course, and familial, tribal, or national commonalities often allow the knowledgeable to identify a human’s place of origin on sight, or at least to hazard a good guess. Humans’ origins are also indicated through their traditional styles of bodily decoration, not only in the clothing or jewelry worn, but also in elaborate hairstyles, piercing, tattooing, and even scarification.  

Growth and Reproduction

Humans typically reach physical adulthood at the age of 18 and can live to be around 90 years old. Humans often intermarry with other peoples, and are unique in that they can bare offspring with other races. These half-bred children bear traits of both parents, and always bare half the traits of their parent races. Different half-breeds seem to have a higher chance of conception than others, but many are possible. Dwarves have one of the lowest chances for successfully having a children with a human, while the most common half-humans are half-elves and half-orcs.   Half-humans are not infertile and can successfully reproduce, but the results can be unexpected. Two half-humans that reproduce will always produce a full-blooded human rather than a similar half-human. For example, two half-elves will always produce a full blooded human child. Half-humans that have children with other races that are not the same parent race, such as a half-orc and an elf, will have a very low chance of bringing a child to bare, but when it happens it will always have half the non-human traits of one of the parents. Half-humans that breed with full-blooded humans will always produce a full-blooded human and will retain none of the characteristics of the other race. And lastly, when a half-human breeds with a full-blooded race that they share a type with, such as a half-elf and and elf, it will always produce a half-human. The blood of the individual does not seem to diminish, there are no quarter humans.   Humans reproduce quickly among themselves, but successive generations of children born of other races will eventually result in a larger human population. Because of this its not a surprise that they have spread across the world in the largest numbers.   Humans are also capable of carrying different other traits in them, sometimes for generations, without revealing themselves. Sometimes this is a demonic or devilish taint, or an elemental energy. Often this is the result of extrapplanar contact, magic or relationships with other worldly beings. When this happens, if the signs dont manifest immediately they may resurface in future generations. When this happens, often a Genasi, Dragonborn or Tiefling is born. Half dragons are not born this way, but are either a divine blessing or the direct result of a dragon and another race mating.

Human Stats and Abilities

Humans of the Lost Lands all share similar traits but often their background can contribute to their abilities. Humans of unknown ethnicity, or ones who would rather adopt the most common human stats. pick from the Variant human stat block from the PHB and as shown below. Alternatively, you may choose to be a descendant of a specific ethnicity, gaining the stats below and the additional bonuses granted on that ethnicities page.  

Foerdewaith (Variant Human)

The Foerdewaith are represented by the Variant Human stats, and are best described as the generic humans of Akados. This can also represent those of mixed ethnicity, if you do not know your descendants are, or simply wish to not adopt the dominant traits of the group you are descended from. You may still choose a lineage different than Foerdewaith, but you do not modify your stats from it and use the block as shown below.
Languages: You can speak, read, and write Westerling(Common) and one extra language of your choice. Humans typically learn the Languages of other peoples they deal with, including obscure dialects. They are fond of sprinkling their Speech with words borrowed from other tongues: Orc curses, Elvish musical expressions, Dwarvish Military phrases, and so on.
Speed: Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Ability Score Increase: Two different ability scores of your choice increase by 1.
Skills: You gain proficiency in one skill of your choice.
Feat: You gain one feat of your choice.  

Human

You have chosen to adopt the specific traits of one ethnic group of humans. You gain the following stat bonuses as well as the ones listed on the ethnicity page of your choice.   Languages: You can speak, read, and write the language determined by your ethnicity and one extra language of your choice. Humans typically learn the Languages of other peoples they deal with, including obscure dialects. They are fond of sprinkling their Speech with words borrowed from other tongues: Orc curses, Elvish musical expressions, Dwarvish Military phrases, and so on.
Speed: Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Ability Score Increase: Your Ability Scores each increase by 1.
