Orc
Orcs of The Lost Lands are commonly regarded as aggressive, callous, and domineering, but there is often more to them than meets the eye. Orcs are tribalistic, far more than humans tend to be, and an orc society often adopts the ideals of the leader they follow. Because of this, groups of orcs tend to fall into two categories depending on the qualities of their leadership. These are not seperate sub-races or ethnicities like many other races have, but rather the outlook of their society and the way it molds the individual orc,
The first is the Feral orc, aggressive warmongers that many are all-to familiar and whom can almost never be reasoned with. Feral Orcs are bullies by nature, they respect strength and power as the highest virtues. On an almost instinctive level, feral orcs believe they are entitled to anything they want unless someone stronger can stop them from seizing it. They rarely exert themselves off the battlefield except when forced to do so; this attitude stems not just from laziness but also from an ingrained belief that work should trickle down through the pecking order until it falls upon the shoulders of the weak. They take slaves from other races on the grounds that anyone too feeble to fight back deserves little more than a life of suffering. Surrounded at all times by bitter enemies, orcs cultivate an attitude of indifference to pain, vicious tempers, and a fierce willingness to commit unspeakable acts of vengeance against anyone who dares to defy them.
The other are often called Tribal orcs, or just "Orcs" to many. Tribal orc clans form when they begin to follow an idealistic and powerful orc that molds their society in a way similar to the races surrounding them. At the direction of the chieftain, Tribal Orcs often have more civilized villages, trade with the other races and even exist within human and other societies. Many outsiders find them not only agreeable but gracious hosts, their honor and hospitality often going above what is necessary in an effort to prove they are not like their feral cousins. While many tribal orcs live in thriving communities, others begin to grow a wanderlust and because of their changed outlook are capable of adventuring. Many others are often skeptical of orcs due to some of their kinds nature, but with a little diplomacy they can often fit in.
Unfortunately, many who throw off their feral nature and become more civilized do not necessarily become "good" and many orcs remain as vile and evil as they were before. Many who throw off the worship of Grotaag are seduced by the calling of Orcus, and become powerful and dangerous necromancers. These are still tribal orcs, but are twisted and dangerous foes who abhor the living and seek to destroy all life around them. But unlike their feral cousins, they possess the intelligence and wisdom to do their work in a more subversive and careful manner.
Orcs varied in appearance, based on region and subrace, but all shared certain physical qualities. Orcs possessed a wide variety of skin colors that usually corresponded to the environment they were in, often adapting within a few generations to blend in with the locations they were in. Their skin varied, from a dark green to an dirty grey or brown, with others in the northern regions often had a blueish hue to their skin. Orcs of all kinds have coarse hair, stooped postures, low foreheads, large muscular bodies, and porcine faces that featured lower canines that resembled boar tusks. Many also had wolf-like ears that were pointed on the ends, similar to elves. Orcs were roughly the same size as humans and other similar humanoids, though usually robust and muscular. Orcs that live a long time among other races or as a peaceful tribe often begin to develop softer features, more akin to a half-orc or human. It's not clear what would happen should this continue for a long time, as rarely do orc tribes go more than a few generations before a dominant and war-like orc takes hold and plunges the region into chaos.
