Mountain Giants

Long before the conquest of the Ironstone Mountains by Lord Blackwood, the icy peaks and sleepy valleys were home to the giants, a race of abnormally large people who lived in small clusters that were few and far between. Their lives were simple but largely peaceful, their size making them unappealing for the wyrms to engage with.   Their quiet, solemn lives were shaken up by the appearance of Lord Blackwood of the Embers. His expansion into the newly-dubbed Ironstone Mountains pushed the giants to the fringes of society. The giants were not prone to violence, but also did not appreciate being pushed out of areas they had historically inhabited for centuries, and so skirmishes were common.   Their numbers have since diminished since the Isturian-Giant Wars. The use of gunpowder, ballistas and superior martial techniques quickly put down any offense by the giants, who had a natural advantage due to their height and strength.   Now, they have largely become isolated, nomadic groups who hunt and trade with small towns, but are largely excluded from Isturians culture. While they prefer to camp outside of large settlements, many towns and cities do not allow entrance by bands of giants.

Culture

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Some giant bands have retained a fraction of the cultural practices they have developed over centuries. One of these is the crafting of a bag or pouch that one wears on the front of their outfit. This is essentially a pocket unique to the individual that one uses for carrying everything from recent kills to shiny stones they happen to find while travelling.

Funerary and Memorial customs

In stark contrast to the Isturian method of burying beneath cairns or in stone tombs, the giants tended to retain their custom of burning the body with objects they believed they would want or need with them. Death rituals include placing food, weapons, jewelry, tools, or pots within the burial site for the use of the deceased in his afterlife. After a time, the entire collection would be burned, completing the deceased's transition to the afterlife.   There are also many rituals that attempt to aid the spirit in their journey to the afterlife, including not saying their name (which would call them back) and burning their tent and all other belongings, so as not to tempt the spirit to return.

Alas, the downside of being really big - you're also a really big target.
