The Flame-Bearers
An organisation in Isturoth that acts as representatives of Barud, the god of home and hearth, is known as the Flame-Bearers. Originally started by priests of Barud operating the temples around the kingdom, the group has evovled to become more about their charity work than observing the worship and rituals relating to the god of domesticity.
Structure
The Flame-Bearers are a wide-reaching organisation that has spread across the entire kingdom of Isturoth. Basically anywhere there is a temple dedicated to Barud, there will be Flame-Bearers that are distinct from the church, that have taken it upon themselves to help the less fortunate and the homeless.
Public Agenda
The goals of the Flame-Bearers are admirable and charitable. They seek to feed the hungry and homeless, and to help them find a home of their own, even if it is only temporary. They will often roam the streets of a city or town as a group, carrying food and water, blankets, medical supplies, and other bits and pieces to give to those who may need them.
If they are near enough to a Temple of Barud, they will usually be directed there for temporary shelter and a hot meal, somewhere to get out of the freezing cold.
Ethics
The Flame-Bearers' mission is to bring the flame of home and hearth to those that need it. In this way, they help their fellow Isturian and also pay homage to Barud at the same time. It is believed that Flame-Bearers swear a solemn oath to always try to help the less-fortunate, especially the poor souls that have no place to call their home.
Worship
Although worship of Barud is not their primary goal, the organisation does attract the priests that particularly engage with Barud worship, and does allow some room for these activities.
Bring the flame to those in the dark.
