Lizardfolk

Overview

Quite at home in the surrounding waters and forests of The Maelstrom Isles, the lizardfolk’s adaptability in difficult environments have granted them ample job opportunities. Though giving them jobs is about all the other races want to have to do with them. To other races Lizardfolk are strange and savage and not a people others want to be around.   You can find the Lizardfolk Stat Block here.

History

Before the Isles were discovered, Lizardfolk and the other races did not interact much, outside of killing one other. However the astute nobleman, Estondo de Tella, saw the difficulty in taming the environment of The Maelstrom Isles and realized there could be a solution. The problem was that the land itself was hostile to his men, and traversing it well enough to fight the dangers was near impossible. De Tella knew that if he could employ the Lizardfolk, who he had had problems with in the past, that they would thrive in the dangerous land.   He sent word back to his lands that emissaries be sent to discuss terms with "the savages". Though the first few times were failures, lessons were learned from mistakes made and communication was finally successful. De Tella promised to give the Lizardfolk their own lands on The Maelstrom Isles where they could live unmolested, as well as promising to pay them well for their work. He shipped a large amount of them down to the Isles and used them to navigate the jungles and swamps and rivers.   De Tella made a fortune from clearing out land that is now readily available for safe living. The lizardfolk were also quite happy with their new home and sent back messengers to bring more of their people to the Isles; their population has grown significantly and they are even seen in civilized towns, though it's usually just to find work or purchase equipment. Though they're ever-present, they are not exactly welcomed, their fierce and primal natures do not bring comfort to most people. Some lizardfolk have learned very basic common speech and can roughly speak it but even the most articulate can only say about one word at a time.

Appearance

  • Lizardfolk come in a wide variety of species and can look like anything from a hulking crocodile to a lithe and wiry newt.
  • Though some lizardfolk are smaller than others they are still roughly the size of humans with few that are shorter than five feet standing.

Homeland

Lizardfolk tribes live wherever there are thick forests and swamps, they range from small packs to large structured tribes.

Religion

Lizardfolk “priests” have been seen worshiping what seems to be a feral version of Nature. It’s based on violence and sacrifice on altars made of bone. The name they call out when making a sacrifice or praying is Ssyzic
