Roman Catholic Church
The Roman Catholic Church (or more properly, the Latin Catholic Church) is the universal church of Western Christendom. Most relevant for Britain, however, the Catholic churches in Rome and France have sent missionaries to Britain and these have established canonical, liturgical, and monastic structures in line with those of the church of Rome in their strongholds. This has caused tension with the local British Christians who maintained Christian faith and developed unique local practices while they were separated from regular contact with the continent.
