Althaemos (ælˈθiːmoʊs)

Althaemos is the highest peak on the island of Lindos. It is known for its excellent view from the peak, and a temple dedicated to the Daemones has been erected near the summit. The temple has shrines to all the gods of the Kaphtori, but gives the most attention to Triantáfylla, the Queen of Roses. She is the patron goddess of the island of Lindos, and her sacred flowers are always in bloom in the temple gardens. It is said that the goddess is a great lover of all flowers, and that she has planted every flower in the world somewhere near the mountain, either on the slopes or in the nearby valley. Some of these flowers are rumored to have fantastic qualities, and those in search of them can often be found searching the area.

Ecosystem

The lower slopes of the mountain are heavily forested, mostly with pine and cypress trees. Flowers of all sorts are found all over the mountain, most especially roses, and the mountain is home to several varieties of walking plants, which roam around like animals. The most famous of these is the vegetable lamb, but the locals are fondest of the rose hedgehog. This small creature bears a mantle of thorns along its back, and will waddle along to find comfortable places to nestle in the soil and bask in the sun. A rose hedgehog in bloom is said to be especially pleasing to Triantáfylla, and bringing one of the creatures to the temple unharmed may earn a blessing from the goddess.
