Bheinn Gaoda (veiɲ kot̪ɤ)

Bheinn Gaoda is the the highest mountain on the island of Hersey. It is near the center of the island, and is 2,799 feet at its peak. There are many routes to climb the mountain, and many people will ascend to the peak for a spectacular view of the area. The slopes are lightly forested in places, and it is commonly used to graze goats and sheep in others. Rhododendrons are commonly found on the slopes, as are juniper bushes, and Gaoda gin is a popular local drink flavored entirely from berries collected from the mountain. This gin is much stronger than other variants, and locals claim that it is enough to make a dead man ask for another sip.

Notable Spirits

Until a few years ago, the best known spirits associated with the mountain were the glaistig, spirits of the wild who could turn into goats. More recently, they have been displaced by the legends of Billy the Goat, a drunken goat-man who is attempting to sail the entire island away and has somehow mistaken Bheinn Gaoda for a mast and sail. The goat-maids have been incorporated into his story; sometimes they are portrayed bringing him more drinks, and other times they play jokes on the drunken god, inspiring him to ever more hilarious antics. The proliferation of Billy the Goat stories has resulted in the various goat-maids gaining more detail and description than had been ascribed to them previously, and those who study the workings of the Egregoric Force expect to see these spirits manifest more thoroughly as a consequence.
