Egþeod
The Egþeod is the government of the island of Eg. The Biegen people who live on the island are organized into clans or cynns, each with its own leader, the Heretoga. Each cynn sends a representative to the Egþeod, which meets periodically to discuss matters of importance to the island as a whole and to resolve any disputes between cynns. The leader of the Egþeod is the Cyning, who is chosen from among the heretogas by the members of the Egþeod. The Cyning is responsible for enforcing the decisions of the Egþeod, and for representing the interests of Eg to outsiders. The Cyning is also the military commander of the Egþeod, should the cynns choose to go collectively to war.
The first Cyning of Egþeod was Scyld, of the Hross Cynn. He is remembered as a great leader who defended the island from invasion by the other tribes of the Volksland and beyond for nearly two decades. The current Cyning is Alaric of the Fluss Cynn, who took the seat only two years ago.
