History of the Empire of Wamato

The Empire of Wamato originated on the island of Kojima when the first Ashikaga emperor first brought the island together under a single leader. During the Ashikaga Dynasty, the Empire expanded to control most of the islands near Kojima, and established itself as a significant power in the Northwestern Region.

After the passing of the last Ashikaga emperor, the Fujiwara family took the throne and the Fujiwara Dynasty era began. This period of Wamatoan history was much more focused on internal matters and ceased to expand as aggresively, with the exception of the conquests of Hoshimoto and the Seom Islands early in the Fujiwara era. Many of the elements of the Imperial structure was formalized during the Fujiwara dynasty, including the position of the Emperor as the people's intermediary with the Kami, and the position of the Shogun as leader of the Emperor's military forces.

The third and current dynasty of Wamato is the Ariwara Dynasty. The first Ariwara emperor took the throne a little more than two and half centuries ago, and for much of that time the Empire was moving back into a more expansionist phase. The conquest of the Manmosu Islands was seen by many as a preparation for a southward expansion. However, this expansion seems to be stalled as the Shogun has been focused on the unending resistance of the Hoshimoto Utari and the piratical depredation of the Imugi, while the Imperial Court has turned more inward facing and focused on cultural pursuits.
