Jiyul
Jiyul is the second largest island in the Seom Islands. Before the islands were conquered by the Empire of Wamato, it was the independent Kingdom of Gukusan and home to the Rengo people. Since the conquest and dissolution of Gukusan, more Rengo live on nearby Gyeongseong than on Jiyul, but the heart of Rengo culture is still on the smaller island.
The island is the home to the temple of Heuk, the tiger god of the Seom Islands. This temple is deep in the forests that cover the slopes of Mount Seong, and is one of the Rengo people's holiest places. Legend says that when the armies of Wamato threatened the temple, the wooden tigers that adorn it were animated by the spirit of Heuk, and drove the invaders off the mountain entirely. Today, there are dozens of wooden tigers scattered throughout the mountain's forests, impervious to the weather, waiting for the moment they are needed to guard the temple.
Geography
Jiyul is a volcanic island, dominated by Mount Seong which rises from the center of the island. To the north is the lake known as Cheongug-ui Hosu, or Heavenly Lake. Most of the population lives around the shores of this lake, and the waters are said to harbor a great Yong or dragon, whose presence blesses the lake and makes it holy.
